Time, Non-Exempt Position Summary:
The IWT Flex Teacher will be responsible for supporting Doyle Towne Landing and Doyle Towne classrooms between the hours of 7:00 AM and 5:30 PM Monday-Friday. This position provides coverage during opening, closing and lunch periods, provides support in classrooms during a teacher absence, high-demand times, and assists children who require additional support. This role requires flexibility, effective communication, and a commitment to fostering a positive learning environment.
Essential Functions:
Supervise and manage the Doyle Towne Landing and Doyle Towne Rooms during opening, closing and lunch periods, ensuring a safe and orderly environment for students. Assist classroom teachers during an absence, peak times or in classrooms with children who need extra support. This includes providing individualized attention and supporting classroom activities as needed. Once assigned to a classroom, remain in that assignment until otherwise directed. Flex Teachers must communicate their locations at all times via Slack. Review and follow the daily classroom assignments posted by the IWT Coordinator on Slack. Take lunch breaks, when scheduled, allowing coverage for classroom teachers during their lunch break. Maintain open and clear communication with the administrative team and fellow staff members. Promptly report any issues or concerns regarding student safety or well-being. Work collaboratively with teachers and staff to create a supportive and inclusive educational environment. Participate in ongoing professional development opportunities to enhance skills and stay current with educational best practices. Provide classroom coverage by assuming full teaching responsibilities in the absence of the lead teacher/s. Attend and actively participate in scheduled flex teacher meetings. Perform opening and closing classroom duties, including greeting children and families, engaging in positive daily communication, and sharing relevant updates regarding each child's day. Support division operations by assisting administration with various duties when classrooms are in ratio or during times when children are not present.
Education and Experience:
Associate or Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field preferred. DCF 40-hour Child Care Training. CPR licensed every two years. Experience working with children in an educational setting. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to adapt to changing environments and handle multiple tasks. Proficiency in using Slack and email for communication. Commitment to maintaining a safe and nurturing learning environment.
Working Conditions:
Ability to move and react quickly to ensure student safety and well-being. Flexibility to adjust hours and assignments as needed. Engagement in physical activities with children, including bending, lifting, and participating in active play. Must be able to work a 8.5 hour shift within the hours of 7:00 AM and 5:30 PM, with a 30 minute lunch break. Must be able to work with multiple distractions and changing priorities. Must act in a professional manner at all times. Must be able to lift 35 lbs, bending, squatting, and twisting. Must be able to multitask. Must be flexible with a good sense of humor. Must be a team player. Must be able to consistently maintain a cheerful, loving attitude.
School Policies:
All staff will comply with school rules and policies, particularly as to timekeeping, and will follow prescribed office and lunch hours. Any overtime must be approved prior to accrual or offset throughout that week unless otherwise stated in the employment letter or as directed by the employee's supervisor. Employees may be assigned to assist in other areas of the school as needed. Such requests must be channeled through the Supervisor and approved by the Head of School.
