SUMMARY OF POSITION

The preschool teacher is responsible for implementing the curriculum, working with parents and assessing the needs of individual children under the guidance of the preschool director.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Establish and maintain an environment for children that is clean, safe, stimulating and which is appropriate for each childs developmental leve l Be responsible for the appearance, décor, and learning environment of the classroom Assume an equal share of the joint housekeeping responsibilities of the staff Promote healthy eating practices through participating in family-style meals and implementing planned nutritional activities Meet and maintain licensing requirements for ratio at all times Interact with children in accordance with developmentally appropriate practices established by DCF and ELC guidelines Ability to manage classroom through positive redirection, problem solving, setting appropriate limits and active listening Assist in implementing lesson plans that promote the development of each child Treat each child, parent, family member and coworker with dignity and respect at all times Consider the individual child in relationship to his/her culture and socioeconomic background Help each child to become aware of his role as an integral member of a group Communicate parent questions and concerns to the director Communicate your concerns about a childs development to the director only Make families feel welcome in the environment; greet parents and child at arrival and departure times Responsible for observations Maintain daily schedule as posted in the classroom Assist in implementations of daily, weekly and monthly plans Assist in documentation of childs progress Upon hire, each employee must begin training to meet state requirements. This training must include first aid, communicable disease, child abuse recognition and prevention, CPR and any other child development topics as required by your director Attending all staff meetings, parent meetings and other mandatory or required in-services Follow agency code of ethics Keep open communication with the director at all times Maintain confidentiality regarding staff, families and children at all times Address concerns regarding program issues (i.e. staffing, safety, program, operation) to the director at all times Relate to families in a positive and respectful manner

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

Must have thorough knowledge of and be able to implement a developmental constructivist approach Must be high school graduate Must have a warm, friendly personality Must be sensitive to the feelings and needs of others Must be able to relate to children Must be willing to fulfill his/her responsibilities in accordance with the centers educational philosophy Must be able to meet the requirements of the city and state licensing agencies Employer conducts Screenings.
