Neighborhood Centers operates comprehensive programs across four core areas: Early Childhood, Youth Development, Family Support, and Community Engagement. Position Summary The Early Childhood Education Preschool Lead Teacher is responsible for creating a nurturing, developmentally appropriate, and inclusive learning environment for children pre-k. This role supports the mission of Neighborhood Centers of Johnson County by fostering early childhood growth, school readiness, and positive social-emotional development through high‑quality instruction, family engagement, and community-centered practices. Key Responsibilities Classroom Instruction & Curriculum Plan and implement developmentally appropriate lessons aligned with early childhood standards and organizational goals. Create a warm, safe, and stimulating classroom environment that promotes curiosity, independence, and learning through play. Use observation and assessment tools to track developmental progress and adapt instruction to meet individual needs. Integrate social-emotional learning, literacy, math readiness, fine/gross motor skills, and creative expression into daily routines. Maintain an organized, clean, and child-centered classroom. Child Supervision & Safety Ensure consistent supervision and safety of all children in accordance with licensing regulations and organizational policies. Maintain appropriate child-to-teacher ratios at all times. Follow health, hygiene, and safety protocols, including documentation of incidents or behavioral concerns. Family & Community Engagement Build positive, professional relationships with families through regular communication. Conduct family conferences, share progress updates, and collaborate with caregivers on individual learning goals. Participate in family engagement events and community activities representing the Neighborhood Centers. Team Collaboration & Professionalism Work collaboratively with Assistant Teachers, support staff, and program administrators. Attend staff meetings, training, and professional development as required. Maintain accurate records, attendance logs, and documentation needed for reporting and licensing. Uphold organizational values of equity, inclusion, compassion, and community care. Qualifications Required Must hold a bachelor's degree with a valid Iowa teaching license issued by the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners (or other state with the ability to switch to an Iowa license). The teaching license must have an early childhood endorsement (#100, #103, or #1001). Experience working with preschool-aged children in an educational or childcare setting. Knowledge of best practices in early childhood development and classroom management. Ability to communicate effectively with children, families, and colleagues. CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain). Preferred Bachelor's degree in early childhood education or child development. Experience in community-based preschool or early learning environments. Familiarity with state licensing requirements and early learning assessment tools. Work Environment & Physical Requirements Ability to lift to 50 lbs and engage in active floor play. Frequent bending, sitting on the floor, and moving throughout the classroom. Ability to work indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions.

Commensurate with experience and education; benefits available $38,000- $50,000 annual salary, plus benefits
