Hamilton Street in Geneva, Illinois, is a welcoming and compassionate community of faith. We illuminate our community with God's grace as we lovingly accept, listen to, and serve all in the Spirit of Jesus. We are seeking caring, dependable, and nurturing Nursery Care Providers to provide a safe and welcoming environment for infants and young children during worship services, church programs, and special events. Nursery Care Providers help create a space where children feel loved and secure while supporting families in the life of the church. This position works collaboratively with church staff and volunteers to provide attentive childcare rooted in hospitality, safety, compassion, and the values of the Christian faith, upholding the mission and values of the United Methodist Church of Geneva. Nursery Care Providers will utilize the majority of their time with 0-2 age children in our nursery, however, will provide support for leaders of other age groups (5th grade and under) as needs arise or as requested by the Minister of Formation and Outreach. Primary Responsibilities Provide attentive, nurturing, and age-appropriate care for children ages infant through preschool. Welcome children and families warmly and help create a calm, safe, and engaging environment. Supervise and gently guide children through age-appropriate play, exploration, sensory experiences, books, music, and child-led activities in a calm and nurturing environment. Change diapers and assist children with toileting needs following proper sanitation and body autonomy procedures. Feed children and provide snacks according to parent/caregiver instructions and allergy guidelines Maintain a clean, organized, and safe nursery environment before, during, and after use. Clean and sanitize toys, surfaces, and nursery equipment after each shift. Follow all Safe Sanctuaries/Safe Gatherings policies and procedures of the United Methodist Church of Geneva Communicate appropriately with parents/caregivers regarding children's needs, concerns, or incidents, reporting to Minister of Formation & Outreach as well. Monitor nursery supplies and communicate needs to supervising staff. Work cooperatively with church staff and volunteers. Maintain workplace confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions. Complete any required incident reports or documentation. Other duties as assigned related to nursery ministry needs. Treat all children and families with dignity, kindness, and respect. Willingness to support the mission and value of the United Methodist Church of Geneva Always maintain professional and appropriate boundaries. Arrive on time and communicate absences as early as possible Keep confidences and respect family privacy Participate in required trainings and evaluations Qualifications Must be at least 18 years of age Experience caring for infants and young children preferred Ability to interact positively with children, parents, volunteers, and staff Demonstrated dependability, warmth, patience, and good judgement Ability to maintain a sage and calm environment Ability to pass a criminal background check, complete and comply with Safe Sanctuaries/Safe Gatherings policies CPR and First Aid certification preferred or willing to obtain certification Status and Schedule Primarily Sunday mornings during worship services and occasional special events or additional ministry activities Employees are expected to arrive at least 20 minutes prior to scheduled childcare times and remain until all children have been picked up by an authorized caregiver, and the room is cleaned and prepped for next use Physical Requirements Ability to lift to 30 pounds, sit on the floor, and actively engage with young children Sit, stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, and lift children Maintain awareness of multiple children and activities simultaneously Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this position.
