Job Summary Child Care Assistant Teacher A+ Day School is seeking a caring, dependable, and enthusiastic Child Care Assistant Teacher to join our early childhood education team. The Assistant Teacher works closely with the Lead Teacher to provide a safe, nurturing, and engaging classroom environment where children can learn, grow, and thrive. Responsibilities Assist the Lead Teacher with implementing age-appropriate curriculum, activities, and learning experiences. Actively supervise children at all times, both indoors and outdoors, while following all safety and supervision requirements. Engage with children through play, conversation, books, music, art, sensory activities, and other developmentally appropriate experiences. Assist with daily routines including meals, diapering, toileting, handwashing, nap/rest time, and transitions. Maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming classroom environment. Support children's social-emotional development and use positive behavior guidance strategies. Follow classroom routines, schedules, and behavior-management plans established by the Lead Teacher and center administration. Communicate professionally and respectfully with parents regarding children's daily experiences, routines, and behavior as directed by the Lead Teacher. Work cooperatively with Lead Teachers, Assistant Teachers, and center administration as part of a classroom team. Follow all Illinois licensing requirements, health and safety procedures, mandated reporting laws, and center policies. Maintain required First Aid, CPR, and other certifications. Attend required staff meetings, trainings, and professional development opportunities. Take initiative in learning new skills and developing professionally within the field of early childhood education. Qualifications Previous experience working with children in a daycare, preschool, school, nanny, or similar setting is preferred. High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required. A genuine interest in working with young children and supporting their development. Ability to actively supervise children and maintain a safe classroom environment. Strong communication and teamwork skills. Dependable, patient, responsible, and willing to learn. Ability to follow directions, classroom procedures, and behavior-management strategies. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced childcare environment. Previous experience working with children with developmental delays or special needs is a plus. Pediatric First Aid and CPR certification is required or must be obtained within the required timeframe after hire. Must meet all applicable Illinois childcare employment and background-check requirements.
