Part-time Position Summary The SHINE Kids Program Assistant provides safe, supportive, and engaging childcare for children ages 1-12 while their parents participate in SHINE Recovery Café programming. This person will create a welcoming environment through age-appropriate games, arts and crafts, educational activities, meals, and supervised play. Some participating children may have special needs, including autism. The ideal candidate will be patient, compassionate, dependable, and able to adapt activities and communication to meet each child's individual needs. Primary Responsibilities Supervise children ages 1-12 in a safe and nurturing environment. Plan and lead age-appropriate games, arts and crafts, learning activities, and structured play. Provide additional support and appropriate accommodations for children with autism or other developmental needs. Assist younger children with feeding, toileting, diapering, and other basic care needs when necessary. Serve and monitor meals and snacks while following allergy and dietary instructions. Maintain accurate child sign-in and sign-out procedures. Communicate respectfully with parents and SHINE staff regarding children's needs, behaviors, and experiences. Use positive guidance and age-appropriate behavior-management techniques. Monitor the childcare area for safety concerns and respond appropriately to incidents or emergencies. Clean and sanitize toys, tables, supplies, and childcare areas before and after programming. Protect the privacy and confidentiality of SHINE Recovery Café members and their families. Report injuries, safety concerns, suspected abuse, or significant behavioral concerns according to organizational procedures. Perform other program-related duties as assigned. Qualifications Must be at least 18 years old. Experience working with children in childcare, education, recreation, youth programming, or a related setting is preferred. Experience supporting children with autism or other special needs is strongly preferred. Ability to work effectively with children across a wide range of ages and developmental levels. Patient, dependable, attentive, and compassionate. Strong communication and problem-solving skills. Ability to work every Thursday from 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Must successfully complete required background checks. CPR and First Aid certification are preferred or must be obtained within the timeframe established by the organization. Must be able to stand, bend, sit on the floor, participate in activities, and lift or assist children when necessary.
