Description:

Lead the classroom. Provide a safe, nurturing and caring environment for the children at all times. Develop and maintain positive, effective, and appropriate relationships with the children and families.

Accountability:

The Lead Teacher reports to the Center Director.

Follow HighScope principles and methods as much as possible, while continuously reading and learning more about curriculum ideas and ways to assist teaching staff with implementation of HighScope in the classroom. Promote the center's philosophy and educational objectives. Support the center's code of ethical conduct. Engage in ongoing staff development to improve personal and professional skills. Support the professional growth and development of colleagues by sharing materials and information and providing helpful feedback and encouragement. Attend staff meetings, workshops, and in-service training provided by the center. Complete 16 hours of in-service training annually, including becoming re-certified in First Aid and CPR every 2 years (in-service must include 4 hours of health and safety training each year). Protect privacy and confidentiality of information pertaining to families, children, and team members. Build positive relationships and communicate in a respectful manner with families, children, team members, administration, Board of Directors, Countryside Church staff, volunteers, and the community in which we serve. Personal Qualities and Special Job Characteristics Must be physically able to perform the job of a childcare teacher (e.g. able to lift children and/or equipment up to 40 lbs; able to stoop, bend, sit, and stand for extended periods of time). Must have a warm supportive attitude towards children. Must be willing and able to put aside personal views to relate to families and support them in non-judgemental ways. Must be reliable. Must be flexible in receiving assignments or adapting to changes in the program. Must be willing to accept supervision in order to improve work performance.
