Preschool Teacher Job Description Reports to
Center Director Position Summary:
The Preschool Teacher is responsible for fostering a safe, engaging, and developmentally appropriate learning environment for children ages 3-5. This role emphasizes early childhood education, social-emotional growth, and school readiness through structured activities, play-based learning, and individualized support. The ideal candidate is enthusiastic, creative, and passionate about helping young children learn and grow.
Key Responsibilities:
Plan and implement developmentally appropriate lessons and activities that promote cognitive, social, emotional, and physical development. Foster a nurturing and inclusive classroom environment that encourages curiosity, independence, and positive behavior. Observe, assess, and document each child's progress, sharing regular updates with families. Incorporate literacy, math, science, art, and social skills into daily routines and structured activities. Maintain a clean, safe, and organized classroom, following all licensing, health, and safety regulations. Build strong relationships with children, families, and colleagues to support a positive learning community. Support children's transitions into preschool and kindergarten through age-appropriate guidance and readiness activities. Participate in staff meetings, ongoing professional development, and center events as needed.
Qualifications:
Must be at least 18 years of age High school diploma required; Early Childhood Education degree, CDA, or equivalent preferred. Experience working with preschool-aged children in a childcare or early education setting. Knowledge of child development and age-appropriate educational practices preferred. Experience with the childcare management software, Brightwheel, preferred. Strong communication, classroom management, and interpersonal skills. Ability to work collaboratively with a team and independently. CPR and First Aid certification preferred or willingness to obtain.
Working Conditions:
Full-time position in a classroom setting, actively engaging with children throughout the day. Requires lifting, bending, sitting on the floor, and assisting children with activities and transitions. Compliance with state licensing requirements and all health and safety guidelines.
Pay:
$11.00 - $15.00 per hour
