Center Manager and Director of Children's Services The Lead Teacher is responsible for planning, implementing, and providing daily classroom activities featuring developmentally appropriate practices offered within a structured learning environment for children developing typically as well as children with special needs. The Lead Teacher leads a team of classroom assistants, aides, volunteers, and student clinicians to ensure the highest quality of care and education for children.

• Proficient in classroom management and creating safe, engaging learning environments
• Must be at least 21 years of age
• Documentation of satisfactory criminal record check per La. R.S. 15:5871
• Documentation of three (3) references and known in the community to be of good reputation
• Documentation of at least one of the following upon date of hire: o A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with at least six (6) credit hours of child development, child life, or early childhood education and one year of experience in a licensed child care center or comparable setting; OR o An Associate's degree from an accredited college or university in Early Childhood Education; OR o A Child Development Associate Credential (CDA) •

Preferred:

At least one year experience as a teacher in an early childhood program serving children zero (0) to five (5) in a developmentally appropriate environment

• Must provide documentation of good health and physically able to care for children prior to beginning work and at least every 3 years thereafter
• Ability to lift children under age 6 years and be able to get down to and up from the floor
• Adheres to The Arc Caddo-Bossier Policy and Procedures and Core Values
• Satisfies all pertinent staff requirements as specified by licensing and funding agencies, and Children's Services Manuals
• Demonstrates an attitude of cooperation with and respect for all guests, children, parents, families and co-workers
• Respects all children in the program and their family's right to confidentiality
• Participates in designated staff training and furnishes the necessary documentation as directed
• Maintains a positive and professional demeanor
• Willing to work flexible hours to meet the needs of children and families
• Willing to participate in Louisiana Pathways and Quality Star systems and achieve a satisfactory score in order for the Center to maintain our stars
• Develop, submit, and carry out written lesson plans geared to specific age group which follow monthly themes, including: o Circle time (music/singing, conversation, movement, language activities, story and art experience using multi-media and "hands-on" opportunities) o Water play (sand, textures, play dough, etc.

) o Fine motor activities (manipulative) o Gross motor activities and individualized activities as suggested by therapists

• Post and follow a daily schedule of activities, embedding child directed activities into daily routines
• Ensure proper positioning of children during classroom activities as instructed by therapist
• Schedule and carry out parent conferences as needed to establish and maintain a cooperative working relationship between staff and parents
• Maintain records of children's attendance, performance, and activities according to demonstrated procedures
• Include the classroom assistant assigned to room in the planning and preparation of classroom activities
• Work closely with classroom assistant to establish the daily routine
• Help children develop in all skill areas by becoming very familiar with their needs and by furnishing developmentally appropriate activities to facilitate each
• Provide individual and small group activities and facilitate learning through play
• Maintain the classroom and materials in a clean, orderly, and safe manner
• Accurately prepare all paperwork in a timely manner
• Ensure proper documentation of any medication administered as designated by the parent for children in classroom
• Prepare, maintain and have available a working "substitute" folder as directed by the Center Manager
• Respond quickly in a soothing and tender manner to cries or calls of distress
• Respond consistently to needs for food and comfort
• Adhere to all policies and procedures, including those addressing discipline, child abuse/neglect and confidentiality
• Keep Center Manager informed of materials and supplies on hand and the need for replenishing
• Adhere to professional code of conduct which includes no elaborate jewelry at work, no long fingernails which present health and safety risks to children, and no use of cell phones while in the classroom
• Perform specific duties in addition to any related tasks as required by the Center Manager or Director of Children's Services, such as Back-to-School/Spaghetti Supper night, Tree Trimming night, and faculty meetings
• Ability to work 242 days per calendar
• Ability to lift children under age 6 years
• Ability to get down to and up from the floor regularly
• Ability to sit or stand for extended periods
• Ability to use both hands in fine and gross manipulation
• Ability to see well enough to read handwritten and typewritten material
• Ability to hear and speak well enough to communicate effectively
• Ability to handle a variety of repetitive tasks in a classroom environment : 242
