Beginning September 1st, 2026 to end May 31st 2027

Summer Break:

There are no guaranteed hours in June, July and August of each year.

Tuesdays & Thursdays, 8:30 AM•2:30 PM (in-class support) 12 Tuesdays & Thursdays, 2:30 PM•4:00 PM (administrative tasks) 3 Wednesdays (flexible hours to complete remaining administrative tasks; total of 10 administrative hours per week) Position Summary Heartsong Nature Preschool is seeking a dedicated and nurturing Teacher Assistant to support our nature-based early childhood program. The Teacher Assistant works closely with the Lead Teacher to create a safe, engaging, and developmentally appropriate environment for young children, with a strong emphasis on outdoor exploration, social-emotional learning, and connection to nature. In addition to classroom responsibilities, this role includes administrative support tasks that help sustain the smooth operation of the preschool program. Key ResponsibilitiesClassroom Support (Tuesdays & Thursdays, 8:30 AM•2:30 PM) Assist the Lead Teacher in implementing daily activities, routines, and nature-based curriculum Supervise and engage children in outdoor and indoor learning experiences Foster a warm, respectful, and inclusive classroom environment Support children's social-emotional development and model positive behavior Help with setup, cleanup, snack time, and transitions throughout the day Ensure children's safety at all times, particularly during outdoor exploration Communicate effectively with the Lead Teacher regarding student needs and observations Administrative Support (10 hours/week) Complete administrative tasks on Tuesdays and Thursdays (2:30•4:00 PM) and Wednesdays Assist with classroom preparation, materials organization, and documentation Support family communication (newsletters, emails, updates) as directed Maintain records, attendance, and program documentation Help manage supplies and inventory Assist with program coordination tasks and special events as needed Assists with marketing, including maintaining Heartsong's social media Qualifications Experience working with young children (preschool age preferred) Interest in or familiarity with nature-based or outdoor education Warm, patient, and collaborative approach to working with children and adults Strong organizational and communication skills Ability to work both independently and as part of a team Willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain) Physical Requirements Ability to actively engage with young children (sitting, standing, walking, lifting up to 30 lbs) Comfort working outdoors for extended periods in different weather conditions Work Environment This position is based at the UU Church of Annapolis and includes significant time outdoors as part of a nature immersion preschool program.
