A Preschool or Childcare Teacher works with young children, usually ages 3 - 5, to help them learn the social, motor and language skills needed to be ready for kindergarten and elementary school. Organizes activities and uses play or games to help children learn; develops schedules and routines for children that include exercise and rest. Works in a school or in a childcare center or program.
G8 Kids Childcare Center is seeking a nurturing, dependable, and energetic School Age Teacher to join our team. The ideal candidate will create a safe, engaging, and supportive environment for school-age children, including before and after school care, school closures, and summer programming.
Responsibilities:
Lead and supervise a group of school-age children Plan and implement age-appropriate activities and homework support Maintain active supervision and compliance with all MSDE licensing regulations Safely escort and supervise children during arrival, departure, and all transitions Assist with transportation procedures , including receiving children from school, supervising children during loading/unloading, conducting name-to-face attendance verification, and ensuring safe transition from school to center and center to school, as applicable Maintain accurate attendance records and perform required head counts during transportation and transitions Support children's social, emotional, and academic growth Maintain classroom organization and positive behavior management Communicate professionally with families, school personnel, and staff Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and licensing requirements Qualifications (MSDE Requirements): Candidates must meet Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) Office of Child Care requirements for a School Age Teacher, including: Must be at least 19 years old High school diploma or GED required Must meet MSDE School Age Teacher qualifications , which may include one of the following: 90-hour School Age Curriculum certification or approved equivalent coursework 45-hour Growth and Development and 45-hour School Age Curriculum (as applicable) College coursework in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Elementary Education, or related field Experience working with school-age children in a licensed childcare or educational setting may be required per MSDE regulations Current CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain) Must pass required background checks and medical clearances
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in a licensed childcare center or before/after school program Knowledge of MSDE licensing regulations Strong classroom management and communication skills Reliable, positive, and team-oriented
