Job Summary:
The lead teacher is responsible for planning, supervision, and implementation of developmentally appropriate early childhood education programming that meets the social, emotional, cognitive, and physical needs of children.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education with a ZA or ZS endorsement, or a Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education, or an Associate's degree in Early Childhood Education may be accepted if currently enrolled in and actively working towards a bachelor's degree.
- Work positively and effectively with both adults and children.
- Take initiative to understand and work with a variety of children with diverse interests, abilities, and ages.
- Strong oral and written communication skills and basic computer skills
- Knowledge of child development and planning developmentally appropriate activities.
- Flexibility and a willingness to learn new skills.
- All necessary forms must be in your office file before you begin (Criminal background check, DHS clearance, LARA eligibility, Consent & Disclosure Form, Screening Statement, Handbook Acknowledgement, all required training by licensing.
)
Experience:
Minimum of two years' experience working in an early childhood setting
Job Duties:
- Plan individual and group activities
- Main confidentiality of each child and family
- Plans and coordinates with Associate Teacher and Assistant Teacher, families, students, and volunteers
- Communicate regularly with families through newsletters, notes, phone calls, home visits/play dates, conferences, and face-to-face communication
- Assists in the orientation and training of staff and volunteers in the classroom
- Maintains a routine schedule for data collection for child assessment, including observation, note-taking, and demonstration of skills to measure child growth and development. Complete the child assessment requirements for the program in a timely manner, meeting set deadlines
- Analyze data and utilize data for planning instructions and reporting results to stakeholders
- Reliable attendance and punctuality
- Take children outside daily throughout all seasons.
- Flexibility to work in different classrooms as needed.
- Ability to follow the guidelines listed in the staff handbook and State of Michigan licensing rules for childcare centers.
- Actively interact positively with children, staff members, and parents, with dignity and respect at all times.
- Maintain order through positive group management techniques and strategies.
- Attend all staff meetings and professional development
- Stay updated on school communications via office mailbox, email, and weekly SMORE newsletter.
- Complete all professional development requirements according to deadlines.
- Follow health and safety protocols to keep children from harm and supervised at all times
- Perform any duties as asked by the supervisor.
