Missouri Position Summary The Childcare Teacher is responsible for providing a safe, nurturing, developmentally appropriate, and engaging learning environment for young children. The teacher plans and implements age-appropriate activities, supports children's social-emotional development, maintains classroom safety and cleanliness, and communicates effectively with families and center leadership. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Provide attentive supervision of children at all times. Create a warm, safe, inclusive, and developmentally appropriate classroom environment. Plan and implement age-appropriate educational activities based on children's developmental needs and interests. Support children's cognitive, physical, social, emotional, and language development. Follow established classroom schedules, lesson plans, routines, and curriculum requirements. Maintain accurate attendance, classroom, incident, and developmental documentation as required. Assist children with meals, snacks, toileting, diapering, handwashing, dressing, and other personal-care needs as appropriate for the age group. Maintain appropriate classroom ratios and supervision requirements. Monitor children's behavior and use positive guidance and age-appropriate behavior-management techniques. Communicate professionally and respectfully with parents, guardians, coworkers, and management. Report accidents, injuries, illnesses, behavioral concerns, and safety hazards promptly. Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary classroom. Participate in staff meetings, training, professional development, and required licensing activities. Protect the confidentiality and privacy of children and families. Follow emergency procedures and participate in emergency drills. Ensure classroom materials and equipment are safe and age-appropriate. Work cooperatively with Teacher's Aides and other classroom staff. Perform other duties assigned by the Childcare Center Director or designated supervisor. Required Qualifications Must meet applicable Missouri licensing qualifications for the assigned classroom and age group. High school diploma or equivalent preferred; additional early childhood education coursework or credentials may be required based on position and classroom assignment. Previous experience working with children is preferred. Ability to pass required background checks and screening applicable to Missouri child care employment. Ability to complete required health, safety, CPR, First Aid, and other training as applicable. Ability to communicate effectively with children, families, and staff. Dependable, patient, responsible, and professional. Ability to work effectively as part of a team. Physical Requirements The position may require the employee to: Sit, stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, and squat throughout the workday. Lift and carry children and classroom materials when necessary and permitted by applicable requirements. Maintain active supervision of children for extended periods. Respond quickly to children's safety and emergency needs. Perform diapering, toileting, feeding, and other age-appropriate care responsibilities. Work Environment The Childcare Teacher works primarily in a childcare classroom and may also work outdoors, in common areas, playgrounds, and other areas of the childcare facility. Previous experience working with children is preferred but may not be required for all positions. Must be able to complete required background checks and screenings. Must complete required orientation, health and safety training, CPR/First Aid, and other training applicable to the position. Dependable and punctual.
