Building Principal / Director of Special Services Position Overview Emerson Public Schools is seeking a caring, knowledgeable, and highly collaborative Preschool Special Education Teacher to support young learners with diverse developmental, behavioral, and communication needs. The ideal candidate will have experience working with preschool students with disabilities and a strong understanding of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) strategies to support student growth in academic, social, behavioral, and functional skill areas. This position requires a compassionate educator who can create a structured, nurturing, and engaging classroom environment while working closely with families, related service providers, paraprofessionals, and the Child Study Team. Key Responsibilities Instruction & Student Support Plan and deliver developmentally appropriate instruction for preschool students with individualized learning, communication, behavioral, and social-emotional needs. Implement specially designed instruction aligned with each student's IEP goals and objectives . Use ABA-informed strategies to promote positive behavior, communication, independence, and readiness skills. Create a structured, supportive classroom environment with clear routines, visual supports, reinforcement systems, and predictable expectations. Differentiate instruction to address a range of readiness levels and learning profiles. Support growth in early literacy, early math, play skills, communication, behavior regulation, and social interaction. Behavioral Programming & ABA Practices Apply ABA strategies such as positive reinforcement, prompting, shaping, task analysis, data collection, and behavior intervention supports. Implement behavior support plans and collaborate on individualized strategies for students with behavioral and developmental needs. Collect, analyze, and maintain student performance and behavioral data to guide instruction and monitor progress. Collaborate with BCBA staff, behaviorists, related service providers, and the Child Study Team as appropriate. Collaboration & Compliance Work closely with speech therapists, occupational therapists, physical therapists, school psychologists, social workers, and case managers to support student success. Participate in IEP meetings, parent conferences, and multidisciplinary team meetings. Maintain accurate documentation related to student progress, IEP implementation, and classroom interventions. Communicate regularly with families regarding student growth, needs, and classroom progress. Supervise and support paraprofessionals and classroom aides in implementing instructional and behavioral strategies. Classroom Environment Establish a warm, safe, inclusive, and engaging preschool classroom environment. Foster student independence, communication, self-regulation, and peer interaction. Ensure all classroom practices support the developmental and emotional needs of preschool-aged children.
Qualifications Required:
Bachelor's degree in Special Education, Early Childhood Education, or a related field . Valid New Jersey teaching certification in Special Education and/or Preschool through Grade 3, as applicable. Experience working with preschool students with disabilities . Knowledge of ABA principles and behavior support strategies . Strong understanding of early childhood development and special education practices.
Preferred:
Experience in a preschool special education classroom . ABA training and/or direct experience implementing ABA-based instructional and behavioral supports . Experience working with students with autism spectrum disorders, developmental delays, communication disorders, and behavioral needs . Experience supervising paraprofessionals and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams. Skills & Competencies Strong classroom management and behavior support skills. Ability to create highly structured, student-centered learning environments. Excellent communication and collaboration skills. Strong data collection and progress monitoring abilities. Patience, flexibility, and a commitment to supporting the whole child. Dedication to inclusive practices and early intervention. Work Environment & Physical Requirements Ability to actively supervise and engage with preschool students throughout the school day. Ability to sit on the floor, bend, kneel, lift instructional materials, and move quickly as needed to support student safety and participation. Ability to lift and/or assist with classroom materials or student support tasks as appropriate to the role.
Compensation, Benefits, & Support Salary Range:
