The Research Foundation for The State University of New York (RF) is the largest comprehensive university-connected research foundation in the country. Job Description:
The Childcare Center at Farmingdale State College is seeking a dedicated and nurturing Teacher to create a safe, engaging, and developmentally appropriate learning environment for young children. This role is critical in supporting each child's overall growth while fostering strong partnerships with families and staff. As the Teacher, you are responsible and accountable for all aspects of the classroom environment and daily operations. You will support each child's physical, emotional, social, and intellectual development while promoting long-term growth and school readiness. The Teacher plans, implements, monitors, and documents a developmentally appropriate childcare program and works collaboratively with parents, administration, and colleagues to meet the needs of all children. This role requires full compliance with all New York State Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS) Day Care Center Regulations.
Responsibilities:
Plan, implement, and supervise a daily program that supports children's emotional, physical, intellectual, and social development, aligned with center policies and philosophy. Create and maintain a safe, clean, organized, and engaging classroom environment that promotes independence and learning. Adapt curriculum and activities to meet individual children's interests, abilities, special needs, and talents. Attend to children's physical, hygienic, and medical needs in accordance with best practices and regulations. Establish and maintain professional, consistent communication with parents regarding their child's progress and well-being; escalate concerns to the Director as appropriate. Serve as a mandated reporter and follow all protocols related to suspected child abuse or neglect. Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation, including records, reports, and required paperwork. Supervise, train, and collaborate with Assistant Teachers, substitutes, and volunteers. Maintain strict confidentiality regarding children, families, staff, and center operations.
Requirements:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Associate's degree in Early Childhood, Child Development or related field, OR High School diploma, at least 9 college credits in Early Childhood, and minimum 2 years related experience caring for children. A Child Development Associate Credential specific to the Preschool or Infant and Toddler developmental period depending on the position. Knowledge of developmentally appropriate practices and developmental levels of children. Knowledge of teaching methods and observation techniques, proper health, safety, and sanitation techniques and regulations.
