Schedule:
Monday-Friday, approximately 2:30 PM-6:30 PM during the school year, with additional opportunities during school breaks and summer programming. The NYC Muslim Center (NYCMC) and Wellspring Schools are seeking dependable, energetic, and flexible Youth Workers (Program Floaters) to support our new
DYCD COMPASS
After-School Program serving students in Kindergarten through 8th grade. Every successful after-school program has team members who step in wherever they're needed. Whether helping a classroom, supporting a student who needs extra encouragement, assisting with dismissal, or preparing activities, our Childcare Assistants play a critical role in ensuring every child has a safe, positive, and engaging experience. Position Summary The Childcare Assistant (Program Floater) provides flexible support throughout the after-school program by assisting Group Leaders, Activity Specialists, and program leadership wherever additional staffing is needed. This position helps maintain appropriate supervision, supports participant engagement, assists with transitions and special events, and helps ensure safe program operations. Childcare Assistants may work with multiple age groups throughout the day and are expected to be positive role models who actively engage with participants. This position does not independently supervise participant groups unless otherwise qualified and assigned in accordance with program requirements. Essential Responsibilities The Childcare Assistant will: Provide flexible support across classrooms and activity spaces throughout the program. Assist Group Leaders and Activity Specialists with daily programming. Help supervise participants during transitions, recreation, snack service, and dismissal. Provide additional support to students who may need encouragement or assistance participating in activities. Assist with setup and cleanup of classrooms, activity spaces, and special events. Prepare instructional materials and distribute program supplies. Support attendance tracking and participant movement between activities. Assist during field trips, family engagement events, performances, and community activities. Help maintain a safe, clean, welcoming, and organized program environment. Reinforce positive behavior expectations using positive youth development practices. Promptly report safety concerns, injuries, behavioral incidents, and other issues to supervisory staff. Assist with emergency drills and emergency procedures as directed. Build respectful and encouraging relationships with youth while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries. Perform other program-related duties as assigned by the Program Director. Qualifications Minimum 16 years of age. High School student, High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent. Interest in working with children and youth. Positive attitude and willingness to learn. Strong communication and teamwork skills. Reliable attendance and punctuality. 18 years of age or older. Experience working with children through schools, camps, recreation, tutoring, athletics, community organizations, or volunteer programs. College coursework in Education, Child Development, Recreation, Psychology, Social Work, or related field. CPR/First Aid certification. Bilingual applicants are encouraged to apply. Daily assignments may vary depending on program needs, staffing, student enrollment, and special events. Physical Requirements This position requires the ability to: Stand and walk for extended periods. Participate in indoor and outdoor recreational activities. Lift or carry program materials weighing up to approximately 25 pounds. Assist with classroom setup and cleanup. Respond appropriately during emergencies. Required Clearances & Training Employment is contingent upon successful completion of all required screenings appropriate to the position, which may include criminal background checks, fingerprinting, reference verification, and other clearances required by DYCD, School Age Child Care (SACC) regulations, or organizational policy. Employees must successfully complete all required organizational and DYCD training upon hire and throughout employment.
