Overview 2026-2027 High School Teacher English & History The Daytop Preparatory School The Daytop Prepatory School, located in Huntington Station, NY, is seeking a highschool teacher for grades 9-12 in a SpEd co-teaching model. In our model, teachers are responsible for teaching multiple courses, for this role we are seeking a teacher to teach English, History and one elective. This is a small school with up to 20 students, separated into 9th/10th grade & 11th/12th grade. Students at The Daytop Preparatory School are receiving education while participating in treatment programs through Samaritan Daytop Village. The school serves youth who may be experiencing substance use challenges, behavioral difficulties, or co-occurring mental health needs and who benefit from a structured, therapeutic learning environment. Students often require individualized academic instruction and strong social-emotional support. Through its continuum of care, the agency also provides counseling, behavioral health and substance use treatment, case management, and family support services to help students stabilize, continue their education, and successfully transition back to their communities. Responsibilities What You Will Do Delivers NYS Education Department/Common Core standards-based instruction in History and English (ELA) ensuring academic growth for all students. Plan and deliver instruction in one elective course such as physical education Develops positive appropriate relationships with students, including explicit recognition of their growth. Develops daily and unit lesson plans that are thoughtful, goal-oriented and aligned with curriculum and state requirements. Implements behavioral management polices consistent with norms of program. Maintains accurate, thorough records of students' achievements and behavioral performance. Assesses on a regular basis student mastery of key skills and concepts and use this data to tailor instructions to meet student needs. Develops, implements and evaluates educational goals with students and therapeutic team based on individual needs. Completes Progress Notes, report cards, individualized reports as requested. Confers with students, clinical staff, administrators, families and referents as appropriate to resolve behavioral and academic problems. Creates and maintains a neat, clean and educationally stimulating classroom environment. Qualifications Who You Will Be Master's Degree in Education Valid NYS Secondary Teaching License in English or History, SpEd License a plus Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with colleagues, families and students. Demonstrated ability to work with students struggling with academic subjects. Strong instructional and classroom management skills. Knowledge of special needs of students in assigned area. Knowledge of Individual Education Plan (IEP) goal setting process and implementation General knowledge of curriculum and instruction. Computer literacy including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite. Adaptable to change in the work environment. Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds. Additional Information This is a full-time exempt role with an annual salary of $70,000-$83,680 with a full benefits package. Benefits include medical, dental, and vision insurance, 25 days of paid time off, access to a retirement account with an employer to match, and tuition reimbursement. This role is located in Huntington Station, NY and has a schedule of Monday-Friday 8am-4pm.
