The Goddard School of Independence is looking for a dependable, confident and motivated Assistant Director in Training to work closely with our leadership team, teachers and classrooms. This is not an entry-level childcare position. Candidates must have previous experience working in a licensed childcare center and should already have a strong understanding of classroom routines, supervision, ratios, safety and professional expectations. This role is designed for someone who enjoys working with teachers and children but is also interested in learning the administrative and leadership side of running a childcare center. Our goal is to develop the right person into a stronger leadership role over time. What Makes This Position Different You will not spend the entire day sitting in an office. You will be visible throughout the school, supporting classrooms, helping teachers, observing daily operations and assisting leadership with the many moving pieces that keep a childcare center running successfully. A large part of this role involves working directly with teachers, helping them understand expectations, answering questions, reinforcing procedures, modeling appropriate practices and providing support when challenges arise. As your knowledge and confidence grow, you will take on additional leadership and administrative responsibilities.
Responsibilities Responsibilities may include:
Supporting and guiding teachers throughout the school day Helping teachers understand classroom expectations, routines and best practices Observing classrooms and helping identify areas where additional support or training may be needed Modeling professional, appropriate interactions with children Assisting teachers with classroom management, transitions, supervision and daily routines Helping ensure classrooms maintain proper ratios and active supervision Providing classroom coverage and teacher breaks when needed Supporting multiple age groups throughout the school Helping maintain consistent school policies and expectations Assisting with new employee training and ongoing teacher development Helping teachers understand and follow childcare licensing requirements Supporting leadership with daily school operations Greeting and communicating professionally with families Assisting with office organization, paperwork, phone calls and administrative tasks Helping with staffing needs and end-of-day classroom coverage Assisting with school events, projects and center-wide initiatives Learning additional Assistant Director responsibilities as skills develop Helping with closing responsibilities and ensuring the school is ready for the following day Childcare Experience Is Required To be considered, candidates must have previous experience working in a licensed childcare center or preschool. We are especially interested in candidates who have experience as a: Lead Teacher Experienced Assistant Teacher Classroom Supervisor Mentor Teacher Curriculum Coordinator Opening or Closing Lead Assistant Director Childcare Administrator Previous leadership experience is helpful but is not required. Licensing Knowledge Is a Major Plus Candidates who already have some familiarity with Ohio childcare licensing rules and regulations are strongly encouraged to apply. You do not need to know every regulation, but we would love to find someone who understands why licensing requirements matter and is comfortable helping teachers follow policies, procedures and classroom expectations. This is an important closing leadership position. You must be able to remain at the school through the end of the day and until the closing responsibilities are completed.
