Job Description

JOB TITLE
Child Development Specialist
II SUMMARY
Position will be in Washington County Schools. Provide evaluation and assessment of developmental progress and special instruction to children from birth to three years of age who are handicapped and/or developmentally delayed. There will be some monitoring of children considered at risk for developmental delays.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree in early childhood special education or Associates degree with applicable certification.

Experience with birth to three years population preferred.
Knowledge/Skills:
Verbal/written communication skills. Ability to maintain composure in difficult situations. Skilled in use of all major computer applications. Ability to safely operate motor vehicle.
EQUIPMENT
Computer, fax, copier, motor vehicle and any other equipment required to perform the functions of the position.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Attend and participate in training and IFSP meetings as needed. 2. Assess children's developmental levels by administering designated tests and checklists. 3. Assists in the planning and implementation of early intervention services as outlined in the Individualized Family Services Plan for each child on the caseload. 4. Home visits will be successfully completed each month. -85% compliance 5. Develop with the family developmental goals and objectives based on assessment results. 6. Keep accurate and up-to-date records of children's progress in relation to the IFSP and report results to the service coordinator. 7. Records will meet Utilization and Review criteria. -90% compliance error free 8. Transport families on an occasional basis as requested. Possess a valid Virginia driver's license. 9. Assist the program coordinator and "Babies Can't Wait" personnel in outreach activities designed to secure referral and increase awareness of program activities. 10. Provide written documentation to complete all necessary program work in a timely manner. 11. Maintain confidentiality according to agency policies. 12. Keep supervisor and service coordinators apprised of all critical or potentially emergency situations. 13. Provide consultation and education services to the community as requested by supervisor/administration. 14. Attend and participate in regularly scheduled staff meetings and in-services and individual program planning staffings as needed. 15. All other duties as assigned.
