Job Description
The Margaret N. Perry Children's Center at the University of Tennessee at Martin is accepting applications for a full-time Child Care Teacher Assistant. This position will assist the Lead Teacher in providing the best quality care and guidance to children in the absence of their parents or guardians. Teaching teams strive to create meaningful experiences for children that extend their cognitive, social, physical, language and socioeconomic development. Teachers provide a respectful learning environment, being sensitive to each child's individual needs. In this supportive environment, children become secure and capable as they strive to master their world. Minimum Qualifications
- High school degree and one year working with children. Bachelor's degree preferred
- Must be physically fit to lift at least 40 pounds
- Must be capable of getting up and down from the floor, sitting in the floor, plus standing for extended periods
- Possess good interpersonal skills, good written and verbal communication skills
- Must be highly motivated and energetic

- Actively take part in a teaching team to guarantee daily operations of the classroom provides a safe, secure and nurturing environment
- Help implement developmentally appropriate activities for children ages birth to 5 years
- Supervise children inside the classroom and outside during playtime
- Help guide student workers and volunteers to guarantee that daily schedules and routines are followed.
- Assist in parent communication about children's daily routines and progress.
- Help provide and maintain a stimulating environment that meets 3-STAR guidelines
- Help maintain the classroom and communicate potential problems with the Lead Teacher and/or administrative staff
- Help conduct parent-teacher conferences
