A well-established early childhood education program in the Nashville area is seeking an experienced, dependable, and proactive Assistant Director to join its leadership team. This is a hands-on leadership position for someone who enjoys working with teachers, children, and families and who can confidently manage the day-to-day responsibilities of a busy early childhood program. The Assistant Director works closely with the Director and leadership team to ensure that the program operates smoothly, safely, and in accordance with licensing requirements and program policies. Key Responsibilities Provide daily leadership and support to teaching staff and classrooms. Maintain a visible presence throughout the school and actively support teachers when needs arise. Assist with staff scheduling, classroom coverage, and daily staffing needs. Monitor classroom operations and help ensure appropriate supervision, routines, and staffing. Support the onboarding, training, coaching, and professional development of teachers and staff. Follow up consistently on staff responsibilities, training requirements, and action items. Assist with maintaining compliance with state licensing requirements and program policies. Help coordinate required staff training and maintain accurate training documentation. Assist with classroom observations, teacher feedback, and performance concerns. Support curriculum implementation and help teachers maintain developmentally appropriate practices. Communicate professionally and warmly with parents and families. Help address parent questions and concerns in a timely and appropriate manner. Help plan and coordinate staff meetings, professional development, special events, and school activities. Assist with maintaining a safe, clean, organized, and welcoming environment. Step into classrooms and provide hands-on support when needed. Work collaboratively with the Director and other members of the leadership team. Perform other duties necessary for the successful daily operation of the program. We are looking for someone who: Has significant experience working in an early childhood education or child care setting. Has previous leadership, supervisory, or management experience. Is organized and able to manage multiple responsibilities in a busy environment. Takes initiative rather than waiting to be directed. Follows through on responsibilities and communicates when tasks are completed or when additional support is needed. Is comfortable making appropriate decisions in day-to-day situations. Has strong communication and interpersonal skills. Builds positive, professional relationships with teachers and families. Is comfortable providing coaching and constructive feedback to staff. Understands the importance of licensing requirements, documentation, and staff training. Can remain calm, flexible, and solution-oriented when unexpected staffing or classroom needs arise. Enjoys being actively involved in the daily life of a preschool. Demonstrates good judgment, professionalism, reliability, and discretion. Qualifications Previous experience in early childhood education or child care required. Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education or related field preferred. Previous supervisory or leadership experience strongly preferred. Knowledge of early childhood development and developmentally appropriate practices. Familiarity with state child care licensing requirements preferred. Ability to communicate effectively with staff, families, and leadership. Current CPR/First Aid certification or willingness to obtain certification. Must meet applicable state licensing requirements for the position. Schedule Full-time, Monday-Friday. The Assistant Director must be available during the program's operating hours and be able to respond to the changing needs of the school throughout the day.
