Job Description
About the Role We are looking for someone who is warm, grounded, and genuinely passionate about working with young children. At Bastrop Montessori, we follow the child — but as their leader. We need team members who understand the difference between permissive caregiving and respectful, intentional guidance. If you move with calm urgency, hold children to loving boundaries, show up consistently and professionally, and aren't afraid to get a little muddy — we want to meet you.
Full Time:
8:30am - 5:30pm, Monday - Friday What We're Looking For A professional who takes reliability, punctuality, and appearance seriously — this is a non-negotiable for us Someone who can multitask and think on their feet while remaining calm and intentional A person who understands or is eager to learn the Montessori philosophy — particularly the balance between following the child and providing clear, consistent leadership Someone who maintains firm, respectful boundaries with children rather than a permissive approach A team player who communicates proactively and collaborates well with lead guides and staff Someone who embraces outdoor play in all weather — rain, heat, and cold included — and understands that fresh air and movement are a core part of our day A person who actively engages with children during outdoor and mud play — not a bystander, but a participant. Mud play is a regular and beloved part of our program and comfort with that is a must! Someone who brings creativity and enthusiasm to afterschool programming — we love fresh ideas for activities and enrichment Basic familiarity with Montessori principles is a strong plus — we will train the right person, but you should come curious and ready to learn A person who genuinely respects and supports the Montessori-trained lead guides in their classrooms — including their rules, routines, and methods — and who follows our school handbook at all times Responsibilities Maintain a calm, clean, and beautiful learning environment Keep materials complete, in good repair, and maintained in accordance with Montessori principles of beauty, order, and simplicity — including washing classroom dishes, repairing materials, and daily cleaning tasks Provide behavioral guidance to children in a manner that is respectful, firm, and developmentally appropriate Assist children with physical needs including diapering, potty training, bathroom escorting, and clothing changes as needed Model integrity, curiosity, responsibility, creativity, and respect for all people, including appreciation for racial, cultural, and gender diversity Supervise and actively participate in outdoor play in all seasons and weather conditions — including mud play Engage meaningfully with children during recess — this is not passive supervision Bring creative ideas and energy to afterschool activities and help create a fun, enriching end-of-day experience for our students Respect and support the lead guide's classroom environment, expectations, and methods at all times Follow the Bastrop Montessori school handbook consistently and without exception Respond to stress and conflict with professionalism and composure Communicate effectively with students, families, and coworkers Collaborate with colleagues to ensure a joyful, safe school environment Maintain professional appearance and be present and on time — every day Professional Growth We invest in our staff. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required; two years of college coursework in early childhood education preferred Experience working with children ages 18 months - 6 years required Montessori experience is a strong plus Spanish/English bilingual is a plus Strong verbal and written communication skills in English Experience working with diverse students and families Physical Requirements Ability to sit on the floor, stand, walk, kneel, crouch, crawl, and reach regularly Must be able to lift up to 10 lbs regularly and up to 50 lbs occasionally Must be comfortable working outdoors in varying Texas weather conditions including heat, humidity, cold, and yes — mud!Pay:
