  Qualifications
  Candidates must successfully complete and maintain the following permits and certifications:
  
• Food Handlers Permit (must state ANSI on the certificate); renewed every two (2) years by the expiration date.
  
• First Aid certification; renewed every two (2) years by the expiration date.
  
• CPR Infant/Toddler certification; renewed every two (2) years by the expiration date. CPR/First Aid must be for Adult/Pediatric CPR/First Aid/AED.
  
• Background check completed through TDFPS.
  
• High School Diploma or GED.

In addition, candidates must have at least 2 years in the early childhood field. Bilingual ability in English and Spanish is preferred but not required.

OR — candidates may hold an Associate, Baccalaureate, or advanced degree in early childhood education or a related field, with experience teaching preschool children. If a degree is in another field, the candidate must be willing to obtain a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential and work toward a degree in early childhood within 90 days of hire.

• Yorktown location: Monday-Friday, 7:00 AM-5:30 PM Duties
  
• Maintain open lines of communication with the immediate supervisor, subordinates, parents, and volunteers.
  
• Assist the lead teacher in creating lesson plans and implementing a curriculum that is ageand skill-appropriate.
  
• Always keep classroom materials ready.
  
• Document children's files daily for class attendance, nutrition, health, and behavior monitoring.
  
• Reinforce classroom and environmental safety.
  
• Screen children for disabilities and submit reports to the Mental Health and Disability components.
  
• Involve parents in educational activities to enhance their role as a principal influence on the child's education and development.
  
• Provide materials appropriate to the child's age and level of development.
  
• Reflect the cultural background of the children through classroom materials, activities, and related languages.
  
• Promote high self-esteem, serve as a good role model, and follow the center's behavior management system and code of ethics.
  
• Adhere to CCR Minimum Standards and Texas Rising Star policies and procedures.
  
• Attend morning inspections; keep children clean and well groomed; serve meals and snacks; prepare for nap or rest time; and support toilet training.
  
• Participate in the center's annual assessments.
  
• Participate in pre-service training once a year and ongoing in-service workshops as required by the program.
  
• Maintain an adequate number of supplies at the center.
  
• Help all childcare providers assemble monthly thematic bulletin boards in the classrooms.
  
• Attend cluster meetings, parent meetings, and workshops.
  
• Work at De Colores Child Development Center ceremonies and various social events.
  
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Lead Teacher or Director.
  
• Travel to all three locations when needed to fill child-to-teacher ratios.
  Additional Requirements
  
• Requires 24 clock hours of training each year to meet TDFPS requirements.
  
• Must possess a valid Texas Driver's License/ID (Operators - Class C).
  
• Must successfully pass a criminal background check.
  
• Proof of work eligibility must be provided.

Compensation

Pay Rate Experience / Qualifications

$10.00 / hour No childcare experience — will train

$10.50 / hour More than 6 months of childcare experience, with or without childcare training

$11.50+ / hour 2 or more years of childcare experience with 24+ hours of up-to-date childcare training

$15.50 / hour CDA and more than 2 years of childcare experience

$16.00 / hour AA in ECD with up to 24 hours of childcare training

$17.00 / hour AA in ECD, or AA in another major with a CDA, or a BA in another major
