Position Description The Floating Teacher is a member of the Annandale Cooperative Preschool staff who helps plan and initiate meaningful learning activities for children ages 2-5 years. Responsibilities include promoting the social, emotional, intellectual, language and physical development of each child in a safe and supervising educational environment. The Floating Teacher is assigned to a classroom as needed and the assignment changes according to the need. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Supervises/promotes activities designed to enhance healthy emotional, social, intellectual, and physical development. Meets the needs of all children. Works with the classroom teachers to develop and implement strategies to support children who have extra challenges. Coordinates with classroom teachers to individualize one-to-one and group activities Supports classroom teachers in observing children and documenting their growth and learning. Supervises all activities to ensure safety at all times. Available to meet with the Director of Education and/or classroom teachers weekly before or after the school day. Attends all staff meetings. General Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Ability to apply early childhood development theories in daily classroom activities and facilitate appropriate outcomes for individual children. Knowledge of trauma informed care, Conscious Discipline, or other similar approaches to facilitating children's social and emotional development. Experience using a problem solving approach to support children with extra challenges. Ability to be flexible with work assignments and work schedules. Knowledge of state licensing regulations and National Association for the Education of Young Children's Accreditation Standards. Excellent communication skills, especially good listening skills. Must have the ability to work and maintain high standards of professional ethics with persons of all racial, ethnic, economic and social backgrounds. Qualifications Bachelor's/Master's degree in early childhood or elementary education is preferred.

Minimally:

meets Virginia Department of Education Office for Childcare Health and Safety's requirements for lead teacher. Minimum of one year experience working directly with two to five year old children. Must pass all criminal history, fingerprinting and background checks. Must meet physical requirements of the job including the ability to lift up to 50 pounds This is a five day a week position with approximate hours of 8:45 am to 12:30 pm. Annandale Cooperative Preschool runs on a school year calendar: September through May. Salary will be based on education and experience, according to the scale developed for this position.
