Position Summary
We are seeking enthusiastic, flexible, and reliable Substitute Teachers to join our team. Substitute teachers in CCS are essential partners who help keep our schools running smoothly while providing students with continuity, care, and engaging instruction. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Provide instruction, supervision, and classroom management in the absence of the regular teacher.
Follow the lesson plan provided by the teacher to ensure learning continues effectively.
Create and maintain a safe, positive, and supportive classroom environment where all students feel respected and valued.
Communicate and collaborate with school staff as needed.
Maintain high expectations for student engagement, behavior, and achievement.
Perform other duties as assigned to support the smooth operation of the school day.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma required.
Associate's or Bachelor's degree preferred.
Virginia teaching license or prior classroom experience a plus, but not required.
Strong communication, flexibility, and organizational skills.
Demonstrated commitment to equity, cultural responsiveness, and student success.
Work Environment
Primary work is performed within school settings, including classroom environments, cafeteria, auditorium, and active school facilities.
Position involves regular movement across school grounds, including supervising outdoor recess, cafeteria spaces, and hallways.
Requires physical agility to assist children, including standing for extended periods, bending, walking, and occasionally lifting or supporting up to 30 pounds.
Daily interactions involve collaborating with teachers, administrators, school specialists, and a diverse student body.
