Job Description

Position Summary The Head Start Preschool Teacher is responsible for planning and implementing developmentally appropriate early childhood education programs for children ages 3-5. This role supports school readiness by fostering cognitive, social-emotional, and physical development while maintaining compliance with Head Start Performance Standards and state licensing requirements. The teacher works collaboratively with families, staff, and community partners to ensure high-quality services for children and families. This position is full-time, exempt from overtime and is contracted on an annual basis. Key Responsibilities Instruction & Curriculum Plan and deliver engaging, age-appropriate lesson plans aligned with Head Start Early Learning Outcomes Framework. Implement evidence-based curriculum that supports literacy, math, cognition, science, and social-emotional development. Differentiate instruction to meet individual learning needs, including children with disabilities or developmental delays. Use ongoing assessment data (e.g., Teaching Strategies GOLD or similar tools) to guide instruction. Classroom Management Maintain a safe, inclusive, and nurturing classroom environment. Establish consistent routines and positive behavior support strategies. Ensure compliance with health, safety, and sanitation regulations. Child Assessment & Development Conduct regular developmental screenings and assessments. Monitor and document children's progress toward school readiness goals. Develop and implement individualized learning plans. Conduct ongoing observations of children's skills and ability aligned to learning outcomes. Family Engagement Build strong relationships with families through regular communication and conferences. Conduct home visits and parent-teacher conferences as required by Head Start standards. Support families in achieving their goals and connecting with community resources. Compliance & Documentation Maintain accurate and timely records (attendance, assessments, lesson plans). Ensure adherence to Head Start Performance Standards, licensing, and program policies. Participate in program monitoring, audits, and continuous improvement efforts Collaboration Work closely with assistant teachers, family service workers, and specialists. Participate in team meetings, trainings, and professional development. Coordinate with community partners for comprehensive child services. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education (or related field with ECE coursework preferred). Associate's degree required. State teaching certification (if applicable). Experience working with preschool-aged children, preferably in a Head Start or similar program. Knowledge of child development, trauma-informed care, and inclusive practices.
Pay:
$19.00 - $23.00 per hour
