We are seeking dependable, nurturing, and mission-aligned applicants who are committed to serving young children with excellence, consistency, patience, and care. The Developmental Center Teacher helps provide a safe, clean, loving, structured, and developmentally appropriate classroom environment for young children. This role may support the infant room, toddler room, 2-year-old classroom, 3-year-old classroom, or general Developmental Center coverage depending on academy needs, applicant experience, and classroom fit. This position requires someone who understands that early childhood care is both practical and deeply relational. Young children need consistent adults who are attentive, patient, calm, dependable, and able to support their growth throughout the day.

Responsibilities include:

Provide attentive, nurturing, and age-appropriate care for young children throughout the day Maintain active supervision of children at all times, both inside and outside the classroom Support feeding, diapering, toileting, rest time, play, transitions, outdoor time, and daily classroom routines Follow all diapering, toileting, hygiene, sanitation, supervision, and child safety procedures Monitor children for signs of discomfort, illness, fatigue, developmental needs, behavior concerns, or safety issues Help maintain a calm, clean, organized, structured, and safe classroom environment Support classroom routines that help children feel secure, cared for, and ready to learn Lead or assist with age-appropriate activities that promote social, emotional, physical, language, cognitive, spiritual, and developmental growth Help children learn basic classroom expectations, self-help skills, communication skills, sharing, patience, and respectful behavior Use gentle, respectful, and developmentally appropriate guidance when supporting behavior Communicate clearly and respectfully with teachers, assistants, families, and academy leadership Assist with classroom preparation, cleanup, organization, supply needs, and daily readiness Help maintain accurate classroom communication, including basic notes related to meals, naps, diapering/toileting, incidents, and child needs as required Understand and follow classroom ratio expectations, licensing requirements, supervision standards, and academy procedures Communicate staffing or ratio concerns promptly to academy leadership Partner with lead teachers, assistants, substitutes, and support staff to maintain consistency and safety Follow academy policies, confidentiality expectations, mandated reporting expectations, and classroom procedures Support the Christian mission and values of

Calvary Chapel Christian Academy Classroom Expectations:

Developmental Center staff are expected to be actively engaged with children throughout the day. Staff should be attentive, warm, professional, and aware of what is happening in the classroom at all times. Teachers and assistants must help create an environment where children are safe, cared for, spoken to respectfully, and supported through predictable routines. Staff should be able to follow classroom plans, maintain structure, and respond to children with patience and consistency. Because Developmental Center classrooms are ratio-sensitive, attendance and punctuality are extremely important. The academy depends on reliable staff to maintain safe supervision, classroom coverage, and compliance with licensing expectations.

Qualifications:

Experience working with infants, toddlers, 2-year-olds, 3-year-olds, or preschool-age children preferred Childcare, early childhood, classroom, ministry, nursery, or child development experience is a plus Must be dependable, punctual, patient, nurturing, flexible, and professional Must be comfortable supporting feeding, diapering, toileting, hygiene, rest time, and daily care routines Must be able to follow directions and work well as part of a team Must understand the importance of classroom ratios, active supervision, child safety, and licensing expectations Must communicate respectfully with children, families, coworkers, and leadership Must be willing to support different Developmental Center classrooms as needed Must complete required background checks, clearances, training, and onboarding requirements Must be aligned with the Christian mission and values of

Calvary Chapel Christian Academy Preferred Qualifications:

Prior experience in a licensed childcare center, preschool, Christian school, nursery, or early childhood setting Familiarity with Virginia childcare licensing expectations CPR/First Aid certification preferred, or willingness to complete certification within required timeframe Experience supporting diapering/toileting routines, classroom transitions, and young child behavior guidance Strong communication, reliability, and teamwork skills

Benefits:

Full-time positions include employer-paid health coverage, including HSA contributions, PTO available from day one, and approximately five paid weeks off per year, including major holidays. Benefits apply to full-time employees only.
