The Neighborhood Before and After School Program Position Description Position Title:
Counselor Position Hours:
Part-time Reports to: The Neighborhood Director Principle Function The Neighborhood counselor is responsible for planning and conducting a program for a group of children.
Specific Responsibilities The Counselor will:
1. Develop and administer a lesson that targets different areas of child physical, mental and social development. 2. Maintain a general schedule of daily activities and structure appropriate to the age of the children. 3. Make themselves aware of the facilities, equipment, and materials available to carry out their activities; use, maintain and return this equipment. 4. Arrange indoor and outdoor space to facilitate creative play, motor-skill activities, and safety. 5. Be responsible for daily classroom maintenance, transitions between programs, time management, and outdoor playtime. 6. Identify any children showing signs of emotional, developmental, or health-related problems, and discuss with Director, parents/guardians, and Child Find. 7. meet and share daily classroom curriculum. 8. Work with the Director and maintenance personnel to ensure a clean, orderly room each day; any problems will be reported to the Director. 9. Inform the Director of needed supplies and materials as far in advance as possible. 10. Maintain and update the Emergency Backpack materials, as described in Emergency Procedures in Staff Handbook.
General Responsibilities The teacher will:
1. Maintain confidentiality about all information pertaining to each child enrolled and their family. 2. Be regular in attendance; arrive no later than 30 minutes before to prepare daily activities and greet children and parents; depart when ALL children are gone. Set up and take down the classroom. 3. In case of illness or other emergency, notify the Director and prepare the daily plan as soon as possible. 4. Attend monthly staff meetings for staff development activities related to child safety and development. Additionally, complete the annual Westwood Child Protection Policy training. Attend parent meetings as needed. Qualifications 1. Previous experience working with children is desirable. 2. Teachers must be able to plan activities that engage children, communicate well with children, understand their emotional needs, be organized, energetic and patient. 3. All employees shall be of good moral character, be emotionally stable, and have an understanding of children. 4. No person convicted of a crime involving child abuse, child neglect, or moral turpitude shall be an employee of The Neighborhood. 5. Background checks will be performed before hire and subsequently, in accordance with Westwood Baptist Church's established personnel procedures. 6. The Teacher will be selected by The Neighborhood Director and will report to the Director. An annual review, with any pay adjustments, will be conducted by the Director.
