Under the guidance of the After-School Program Coordinator, the Child Care Teacher Assistant provides direction for the program and classroom and implements program reading and interactive curriculum/activities with ages of children between 2 - 5 years old. The Child Care Teacher Assistant also provides quality experience to children and parents that focuses on the YMCA values of honesty, respect, responsibility and caring. Reports To Angie Child, Childcare Director Education/Qualifications Good Conduct and Academic Standing with the college Sheridan College Student currently enrolled Cumulative GPA of 2.0 or greater Student must qualify for Federal Work Study to be considered for employment. CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and Child Abuse prevention training within 30 days of hire date. Mission with Character, Listen 1st and Child Abuse Prevention training within 6 months of hire date. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Previous experience working with children in a developmental setting preferred. Ability to plan, organize and implement age-appropriate/developmentally appropriate program activities. Previous experience with diverse populations. Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds. Ability to plan, lead and participate in activities. Maintains continuing education credits (STARS) required by state licensing. Working Conditions/Physical Requirements The ability to engage and interact with kids, parents and staff in a positive way. To maintain a safe friendly environment with the ability to lift, stand, sit and move with the kids. Job Duties These are the job duties for required of the position. Percentage of time 100% Responsibility/Duty Implement curriculum within the established guidelines. Design and implement daily lesson/activity plans. Supervise the children, classroom and all activities in a safe environment. Reading and literacy activities with children in small groups. Make ongoing, systematic observations and evaluations of each child. Maintain positive relationships and effective communication with parents. Maintain program site and equipment.
