Job Description

This is a full-time position. The qualified candidates will develop, implement and assess the efficacy of instruction in either Lower, Middle School, or High School. The ideal candidate are experienced independent school teachers with a strong desire to work in a collaborative environment and have a commitment to teaching students with language-based learning disabilities.
Qualifications:
Literacy degree and certification required. Experience in Wilson or Orton Gillingham - ceritification opreferred. Independent school experience preferred. Knowledge of the cognitive, linguistic, and developmental needs of special education students. Strong classroom management, communication and organizational skills. Teachers are required to plan engaging and challenging units of study and differentiate instruction as needed. Teachers are also expected to participate fully in the life of the school, be a team-player, a supportive colleague, and contributing member of the professional community. The Vincent Smith School, a grade 1-12 independent school founded in 1924, provides an individualized program for students with ADD, ADHD, and Learning Disabilities, such as Dyslexia, Dyscalculia, Dysgraphia, Non-Verbal Learning Disabilities, Auditory Processing Disorders School Anxiety, and Language (Expressive/Receptive) Processing Disorders. Located on a beautiful 4½ acre campus in Port Washington, NY, the School is seeking nurturing and collaborative teachers with a Special Education background to join us in serving our students.
