Must hold or be eligible for a VA teaching certificate with a Reading Specialist endorsement.

We are seeking a dedicated, highly skilled Reading Specialist to lead and support literacy instruction across our school and division. This role combines direct instruction support with data analysis, teacher coaching, and curriculum development. The ideal candidate will serve as a key instructional leader, using data to drive student achievement while collaborating with teachers, school administrators, and division leadership to design and implement effective reading programs.

Key Responsibilities

Data Analysis & Student Assessment

Lead building-level and grade-level data analysis to evaluate reading trends, identify instruction gaps, and track student growth.

Guide teachers in interpreting data to design targeted interventions and extensions.

Facilitate regular data team meetings to ensure instruction aligns with student performance and learning goals.

Curriculum Planning & Development

Collaborate on short-term and long-term curricular planning at the building and grade levels to ensure alignment with state standards and literacy research.

Participate in division-level curriculum planning and development to help design, refine, and implement cohesive literacy frameworks.

Evaluate, select, and adapt high-quality instructional materials and evidence-based interventions.

Teacher Coaching & Professional Development

Provide classroom-based coaching, co-teaching, and modeling of evidence-based literacy strategies for classroom teachers.

Conduct non-evaluative instructional walkthroughs and offer targeted feedback to support teacher growth.

Design and facilitate professional development workshops focused on foundational reading skills, content-area literacy, and data-informed instruction.
