To teach one or more classes of biology or earth science to students and assist in other school programs as assigned.ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Teach scientific skills and knowledge through courses in biology or earth science utilizing California State Standards and other appropriate learning activities.
- Plan a balanced science instructional program involving demonstrations, lectures, discussions and student experiments; organize laboratory activities and procedures for optimum learning.
- Demonstrate scientific concepts by use of scientific apparatus, experiments and standard or teacher-prepared charts, sketches and other instructional aids.
- Provide individual or small-group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of pupils and to accommodate circumstances where a variety of projects and experiments are being worked on simultaneously.
- Select and request books, instructional aids, scientific equipment, chemicals, glassware and supplies and maintain inventory records as required.
- Maintain professional competence through participation in inservice education activities provided by the district or in self-selected professional growth activities.
- Attend staff meetings and serve on staff committees as necessary or assigned.
- Identify pupil needs and cooperate with other staff members in assessing and helping pupils solve health, attitude and learning problems.
- Communicate with parents and school counselors on individual pupil's progress.
- Supervise pupils in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned workday.
- Perform basic attendance accounting and clerical tasks as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
