Sacramento is seeking a passionate and energetic STEAM Educator/Mentor to inspire and guide 5th grade students through engaging science, technology, engineering, art & design, and mathematics experiments. In this role, you will be educating students on the basic science fundamentals, technology (such as CAD, and robotics), engineering, and mathematical operations & applications that align with California's Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) by using hands-on experiments in a classroom environment.
STARBASE
is a Department of Defense (DoD) funded program aiming to enhance the educational experience offered to our local community's schools through hands-on, minds-on STEAM experience and explore STEAM opportunities. Responsibilities Team teach fifth grade students with DoD approved
STARBASE
curriculum and standards by collaborating, updating, and integrating more hands-on experiments. Lead engaging STEAM activities that stimulate curiosity and promote hands-on learning experiences for children and youth. Set up, break down, and clean up all curriculum equipment and supplies. Prepare the classroom with the required materials for that day's curriculum lessons. Understand and research the concepts being taught which will include but are not limited to: basic chemistry, physics, computer science, engineering, geometry and number sense. Identify and select different instructional resources and methods to meet students' varying needs. Supervise and ensure safety precautions when students are handling all chemicals and working with any equipment. This includes making sure all manufacturers safety guidelines are followed, students are wearing eye and skin protection, as well as monitoring class progress and discontinuing curriculum if safety precautions are not followed or if not adhering to HAZMAT regulations. Create and schedule social media posts at a minimum of once per week. Requirements Prior experience working with children in educational settings such as public or private schools, academic institutions, camps, or youth programs. Knowledge of childhood development principles and effective behavior management techniques. Demonstrated ability to lead youth group activities with enthusiasm and professionalism. Excellent communication skills along with team leadership capabilities to collaborate effectively with students, colleagues, and military personnel. Must be 18 years old and Bachelor's degree in a STEM or education field Must pass Department of Justice (DOJ) and Federal Bureau Investigation (FBI) live scan Must be punctual and able to manage their time wisely Proficient in Microsoft PowerPoint, Word, and Excel Preferred Skills/Experience Proficient in Science and Math Relevant course work in a STEM or education field Able to manage students in a classroom environment At least three (3) years of military experience in a STEM field Proficient in Social Media (Facebook and Instagram) Technical savvy with CAD programs, coding, 3D printing and robotics
Pay:
$30.00 - $35.00 per hour Expected hours: 40.0 per week
