Job Summary:

Otero College seeks a student centered instructor who is passionate about teaching, learning, and student success. As a comprehensive community college, instructors play a vital role in advancing the college's mission by providing high-quality instruction, fostering meaningful student engagement, and preparing learners for academic achievement, workforce readiness, and lifelong growth. Instructors are responsible for delivering effective instruction, maintaining academic excellence, supporting student retention and completion through mentoring, and contributing to ongoing program and curriculum development.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Instructional Duties:

• Prepare and update course syllabi annually; distribute and review with students.
• Teach assigned courses and maintain scheduled class times.
• Use instructional methods appropriate for diverse student backgrounds and learning styles.
• Create a supportive and engaging learning environment.
• Revise teaching methods for improved learning outcomes.
• Promote and assess achievement of course/program competencies.
• Maintain accurate student records including attendance and grades.
• Participate in curriculum development and revision.
• Encourage students to use academic and support services.
• Refer students to tutorial and other support resources and conduct follow-up.
• Integrate technology into teaching when appropriate.
• Other duties as assigned.

Assessment, Curriculum & Program Review:

• Assist with assessments and curricular updates at course, program, and institutional levels.
• Participate in state-mandated program reviews and reporting.

Professional Development:

• Maintain required credential(s), licenses, and certifications.
• Participate in professional growth activities (e.g., workshops, conferences, memberships).
• Complete performance evaluations with supervisors.
• Stay current in instructional and industry trends.

Other:

• Assist with the recruitment of students into the program
• Submit student logs, reports and documentation by deadlines.

Minimum Qualifications:

Faculty and instructors must meet one of the following three minimum criteria:

• Master's degree or higher in the course discipline, content area, or prefix. (Documentation must include the discipline of the degree.)
• Master's degree or higher in another discipline, content area, or prefix, with a minimum of 18 graduate credit hours in the course discipline, content area, or prefix. (Documentation must include the discipline of the degree and graduate courses completed.)
• Documented applicable experience to include "a", "b", or "c" below: a) A bachelor's degree with the intent to complete a master's degree within three years.

Progress towards the degree should be measurable and reported annually. b) Applicable experience in the discipline (employment etc.) equivalent to 2or more years beyond bachelor's level, depending on level of course, which includes a breadth and depth of experience outside of the classroom in real-world situations relevant to the discipline in which the faculty member or instructor would be teaching. c) Two or more of the following: i. A bachelor's degree and a minimum of 9-15 graduate credit hours completed in the course discipline, content area, or prefix. ii. Teaching experience at the college level in the course discipline, content area, or prefix, and documentation of related professional development (e.g., publications, presentations, mentorship, etc.). iii. Discipline-specific certifications or credentials at a post-secondary level, or specialized advanced experience relevant to the course discipline, content area, or prefix. Evidence of specialized credentials may include significant invited performances (e.g., galley shows, guest conductor, director, or performer experiences). (Documentation must include two of the above statements and related evidence.)

Preferred Qualifications:

• Two years of successful teaching experience at the post-secondary level
• Experience with educational technology and a willingness to continue to learn and incorporate educational technology.
• Experience working with diverse populations
• Willingness to teach a varied schedule including evenings, weekends and summer.
• Educational philosophy in alignment with that of a small rural, comprehensive Community College and enthusiasm for this type of environment and the aspirations of its people.
