On-campus Position Overview Shorter University's Ware School of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, Department of Natural Sciences invites applications for qualified adjunct/part-time instructors to teach undergraduate chemistry courses. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong disciplinary expertise, effective teaching ability, and a commitment to student learning aligned with the institution's mission. Primary Teaching Responsibilities Teach undergraduate chemistry courses such as: General Chemistry Lectures General Chemistry Laboratory Upper-level Chemistry/Biochemistry courses as needed Deliver instruction consistent with approved course outcomes and departmental expectations Assess student learning and provide timely, constructive feedback Maintain regular communication with students (including timely response to inquiries) Submit grades, attendance, and required assessment documentation by institutional deadlines Institutional & Professional Responsibilities Support learning outcomes assessment and accreditation processes as requested Adhere to institutional policies (e.g. FERPA) and academic integrity standards Contribute to a positive learning environment that supports student success and retention Qualifications Applicants must meet one of the following criteria: Doctoral degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry or related field, or Master's degree in Chemistry or Biochemistry, or Master's degree in a related field with at least 18 graduate semester hours in Chemistry Additional requirements Agreement with Shorter University's Mission, Lifestyle Statement, and Statement of Faith Graduate transcripts documenting relevant coursework (official transcripts required upon hire) Strong written and oral communication skills Demonstrated content expertise appropriate for undergraduate instruction Preferred Qualifications Prior experience teaching undergraduate courses Experience with Learning Management Systems (e.g. Canvas) Commitment to engaging and ethical teaching practices Work Environment Courses are delivered in a face-to-face environment Teaching assignments are based on departmental needs and enrollment Adjunct faculty play a key role in supporting student achievement and academic quality Application Instructions Please attach the following to the application: Cover letter addressing qualifications Curriculum vitae or resume Statement of Teaching Philosophy Statement of Faith Unofficial graduate transcripts Three current letters of reference Equal Opportunity Statement Shorter University is an equal opportunity employer committed to building a vibrant academic community and fostering an environment of excellence.
