Job Description

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry in the Hurley School of Arts and Sciences at Catawba College welcomes applications for Adjunct Teaching Instructors in Chemistry for the 2026 - 2027 academic year. The primary responsibilities of the position include teaching General Chemistry lectures and labs and Analytical Chemistry lectures and labs. Qualified candidates will have at least 6 hours of graduate-level chemistry classes beyond the Bachelor's degree. A successful candidate will be strongly committed to teaching and creating an inclusive and diverse learning environment. Candidates who are currently working towards their graduate degree will also be considered.

Founded in 1851 in Newton, North Carolina, Catawba was started by German pioneers who had traveled from eastern Pennsylvania to settle in the Haw, Yadkin, and Catawba Rivers valleys. In 1890, Catawba became a coeducational institution, and the first woman to graduate completed her studies in 1893. In 1925, Catawba moved and re-opened to its current location in Salisbury, NC, about 45 minutes from Greensboro, Winston-Salem, and Charlotte, two hours from the mountains, and four hours from the beaches.
