Job Duties DYS is seeking a Teacher 1 (Science) to oversee facility behavioral healthcare functions. The ideal candidate will be a strong leader with a solid background and a passion to habilitate youth. Specifically, the Teacher 1 (Science) will: Instruct students at Circleville Juvenile Correctional Facility (CJCF) in academic Science programs: provides services, which implement the DYS educational mission; analyzes records to identify student's immediate & long-range needs (e.g., utilizes student analysis results & approved course of study to develop lesson plans for assignments & activities which meet identified student's needs); provides individualized instruction & assistance; administers, scores & interprets examination & proficiency indicators; counsels students concerning their performance, behavior &/or personal problems. Conducts on-going assessment of student progress to update records of student's needs & corresponding instructional & training programs: counsels student regarding academic & behavioral progress; documents student progress (e.g., maintains student's performance reports for use in planning institutional, transitional & community services for youth); participates in institutional treatment activities. Cares for & maintains all classroom equipment & learning aides: prepares budgetary proposals, researches, selects, recommends & requisitions for new educational resources (e.g., textbooks, learning aides); maintains necessary inventories & orders supplies & material needed; prepares & maintains required records (e.g., enrollment figures, grades, student progress) & submits reports as required (e.g., attendance, grades, discipline). Attends a variety of meetings (e.g., in-service training, treatment teams, student interviews) & maintains professional growth through participation in meetings, workshops & formal education programs . The final candidate selected for this position will be required to undergo a criminal background check and pre-employment drug screening. All new candidates hired to the Department of Youth Services must complete a mandatory 6 weeks of training. Week 1 is held at CJCF, weeks 2 through 4 are held at DYS Training Academy in Orient, Ohio, Monday through Thursday, 7:00 am - 5:00 pm. Weeks 5 - 6 are on the job training held at
