Santiam Junior/Senior High School is seeking a dedicated and innovative educator to serve as our Secondary Science Teacher - Biology & Integrated Science . The successful candidate will primarily teach Biology while helping students develop a deep understanding of life science through engaging, inquiry-based instruction, laboratory investigations, and authentic scientific experiences. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential duties of this position include the following. Employees in this position perform some or all of the following tasks. Other related duties may be assigned. Follows and maintains knowledge of all District policies and procedures. Develops and maintains a classroom environment conducive to e?ective learning. Plans a program of study that meets the Oregon required learning standards and the individual needs, interests and abilities of students. Plans and supervises purposeful and engaging lessons and experiences, including science labs. Assists in the selection of books, equipment and other instructional materials Match activities and materials to individual and group skills and needs. Uses a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved. Uses a grading system that is consistent, fair, and supportable. Assesses and evaluates students' abilities and progress. Prepares report cards and progress reports. Informs parents of student progress concerning academic achievement and behavior through phone calls, email, and occasional in person meetings throughout the school year. Facilitates conferences with students and parents. Completes required paperwork in speci?ed time and manner. Conducts appropriate assessments of students' work and maintains accurate and regular data on students in areas of attendance, grades and IEP progress, if applicable. Supervises students in out-of-classroom activities as assigned. Assists administration in implementing policies and rules governing student life and conduct. Informs parents of student progress concerning academic achievement and behavior through conferences, written messages, telephone calls and/or email. Promptly reports any serious accident or illness a?ecting students in the teacher's charge or any incident, which might a?ect the school, teachers or students therein. Attend all required meetings. Appropriately maintains and secures con?dential records and inquiries. Maintains appropriate certi?cations and training hours as required. Professionally represents the school and the District in interactions with parents, community, sta? and students. Complies with applicable District, state, local and federals laws, rules and regulations. Adheres to all standards established by Teachers Standards and Practices Commission (TSPC) for Competent and Ethical Educator. Attends work regularly and is punctual.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree or equivalent from four-year college or university required; Master's degree or equivalent strongly preferred; Science Major strongly preferred; Experience teaching Biology and/or Integrated Science at the secondary level preferred; Ability to teach or obtain qualifications to teach dual credit science courses through a partnering college or university. Must have a valid teacher's license and appropriate science endorsement(s) through the Teachers Standards and Practices Commission (TSPC) or have an ability to obtain the needed endorsements prior to employment.
