2026-2027 About the Role A dynamic, student-centered public charter school in Northwest Washington, D.C. is seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Physics Teacher to join its instructional team for the 2026-2027 school year. The primary responsibility will be teaching 12th Grade Physics , with an additional opportunity to teach a science elective to students in Grades 9-12 . The school emphasizes inquiry-based learning, strong academic routines, hands-on experiences, and culturally responsive instruction. Key Responsibilities Plan and deliver engaging, rigorous, standards-aligned 12th Grade Physics instruction. Teach core physics concepts, including mechanics, forces and motion, energy, momentum, waves, electricity and magnetism, and other relevant areas of physics. Teach an additional science elective for students in Grades 9-12 , based on school needs and the teacher's expertise. Design and facilitate hands-on investigations, laboratory experiences, demonstrations, and inquiry-based lessons. Connect physics concepts to real-world applications, technology, engineering, and current scientific developments. Integrate data analysis, mathematical reasoning, technology, and multimedia resources into instruction. Foster a safe, inclusive, and academically challenging classroom environment. Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners, including students with IEPs and multilingual learners. Use formative and summative assessments to monitor student progress and inform instruction. Provide timely and constructive feedback aligned with course and science standards. Prepare students for success in college, careers, and further study in STEM-related fields. Collaborate with science department colleagues and other members of the instructional team. Maintain consistent and professional communication with families. Participate in professional development and contribute positively to the wider school community. QualificationsEducation Bachelor's degree in Physics, Science, Education, Engineering, or a related field required. Master's degree preferred. Experience Minimum of two years of classroom teaching experience in an urban school (charter school preferred). High school physics teaching experience strongly preferred. Experience teaching advanced science or STEM courses is a plus. Experience developing or teaching science electives for high school students is preferred. Experience with inquiry-based, project-based, or standards-aligned instruction. Skills Strong content knowledge in physics and high school science. Ability to make complex scientific concepts accessible and engaging to students. Ability to design meaningful laboratory and inquiry-based learning experiences. Strong classroom management and organizational skills. Excellent communication and collaboration skills. Commitment to equity, inclusion, and culturally responsive teaching.
