Job Description

Primary Purpose

Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in the Health Science Career Cluster designed to fulfill their maximum potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies and technical skills in healthcare, medical terminology, patient care, anatomy and physiology, and related health science fields in preparation for postsecondary education and healthcare careers.

Qualifications

Education/Certification

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university

Preferred Valid Texas teaching certificate with appropriate Career and Technical Education (CTE) certification in Health Science

Current healthcare licensure/certification (RN, LVN, CNA, EMT, or related field)

Special Knowledge/Skills

Knowledge of healthcare systems, medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, patient care procedures, and health science curriculum

Ability to instruct students in safe and ethical healthcare practices

Knowledge of Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) for Health Science

Strong classroom management, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

Ability to supervise clinical experiences and laboratory activities

Knowledge of

HIPAA, OSHA

standards, infection control, and healthcare safety procedures

Experience

Student teaching or approved internship

Experience in healthcare or related medical field preferred

Major Responsibilities and Duties

Instructional Strategies

Develop and implement lesson plans aligned with TEKS and district curriculum requirements.

Teach courses related to health science, anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, patient care, and healthcare systems.

Provide laboratory and hands-on instruction in healthcare skills and procedures.

Prepare students for industry certifications, postsecondary education, and healthcare careers.

Utilize instructional technologies and project-based learning strategies.

Differentiate instruction according to student needs, abilities, and learning styles.

Maintain a classroom and laboratory environment conducive to learning and safety.

Student Growth and Development

Encourage professionalism, leadership, teamwork, and ethical decision-making.

Establish and maintain standards of student behavior.

Monitor student progress and provide timely feedback.

Support and supervise student participation in CTSOs such as HOSA - Future Health Professionals.

Program Management

Maintain inventory and care of healthcare equipment, laboratory supplies, and instructional materials.

Ensure compliance with safety regulations, district procedures, and healthcare standards.

Coordinate clinical experiences and partnerships with healthcare facilities when applicable.

Assist in development and promotion of the district's Health Science program.

Communication

Maintain professional relationships with students, parents, colleagues, healthcare partners, and community members.

Communicate effectively regarding student achievement and program activities.

Professional Growth and Development

Participate in professional development activities and health science education organizations.

Stay current with emerging healthcare technology, procedures, and industry practices.

Other

Attend faculty meetings and required district events.

Perform other duties as assigned by campus administration.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Direct student aides, interns, and student clinical/laboratory activities as assigned.

  • Maintain emotional control under stress
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, and lifting of equipment or supplies
  • Exposure to healthcare simulation equipment, chemicals, and biological materials in controlled settings
  • Occasional prolonged and irregular hours for clinical activities and student competitions
    Terms of Employment
    Salary and work year to be established by the Board of Trustees and administrative regulations.

Evaluation

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of personnel.

$52,800 to $71,440 Per Year
