Our organization is seeking passionate and experienced Gymnastics Youth Educators who have a strong interest in Social Justice and Racial Equity Arts Education. A Gymnastics Youth Educator will provide in-school and/or after-school residency opportunities, generally between 9:30am
  • 2pm or 3pm-6pm for 1.
5 to 2 hours (can be more hours depending on the client), at DCPS Ward 6, 7 and 8 partner schools and recreation centers. As part of this position, you will be responsible for providing and delivering advanced interactive and fun Gymnastics lessons to youth ages five to fourteen in a creative, structured and engaging environment. It will be necessary for the successful candidate to create and deliver lesson plans, lead Gymnastics exercises and projects, and mentor youth in the development of their Gymnastics skills. Essential Responsibilities
  • Lead engaging gymnastics classes during after-school programming (3:45 p.m
  • 6:00 p.m.).
  • Teach fundamental gymnastics skills in a safe, structured, and encouraging environment.
  • Develop age-appropriate lesson plans that promote physical fitness and skill progression.
  • Ensure proper warm-ups, stretching, conditioning, and cool-down activities are incorporated into every class.
  • Foster teamwork, discipline, confidence, and perseverance.
  • Maintain classroom and equipment safety while providing positive behavior management.
  • Communicate professionally with site staff and EYL 365 Project leadership. Sample Activities Examples of lessons may include:
  • Forward rolls, backward rolls, cartwheel progressions, handstand fundamentals, and bridges.
  • Balance beam exercises focused on coordination, posture, and confidence.
  • Floor routines incorporating flexibility, strength, rhythm, and movement.
  • Tumbling circuits and obstacle courses that develop agility and body control.
  • Partner stretching, relay races, and cooperative movement games that encourage teamwork and physical fitness. Qualifications
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience teaching gymnastics, tumbling, movement education, or youth fitness programs.
  • Experience working with children in early elementary through middle school.
  • Strong knowledge of gymnastics safety procedures and proper skill progressions.
  • Ability to engage students of varying skill levels in a fun and inclusive environment.
  • Strong classroom management and communication skills.
  • Reliable, professional, and dependable. Preferred Qualifications
  • Gymnastics coaching certification or equivalent experience.
  • CPR and First Aid Certification (or willingness to obtain).
  • Experience teaching in after-school programs, recreation centers, camps, schools, or community-based youth organizations.
EYL 365 Project Teaching Artists are highly skilled artists and educators, committed to creating equitable learning spaces through collaborative teaching practices and social justice pedagogy. They report directly to the Program Director and are supported by EYL 365 Project Department Heads and Program Coordinators. They work closely with classroom teachers, school administrators, and teaching artists to positively impact school communities.
