Job Description

Wildwood Nature Center is a five-acre park that has one and a half acres of restored native tallgrass prairie, two ponds, a campfire circle, walking trails, and a small woodland area. Our Program Center houses three classrooms that are utilized year-round with programming for all ages, scout groups, birthday parties, special events, and summer camps. Wildwood also uses three classroom spaces at the Maine Park Leisure Center where our Nature Preschool program and our Outdoor Nature classroom is located. Our Nature Center facility houses an animal exhibit room that is home to over 50 animals and our Nature Nook, an educational playroom. This building is open year-round to the public.
Description:
We have a a unique opening for a creative, nature loving individual that enjoys animals & teaching people of all ages as a part-time Wildwood Instructor. This position is responsible for teaching programs, hosting birthday parties/special events, scout groups, and instructing offsite programs for a variety of age groups. Selected individuals will be responsible for helping set-up and clean-up the classroom, implementing lesson plans and supervising children ages 1-14. Will provide excellent customer service and promote our District's programs and services. As a member of the staff, will work closely with other employees and embrace a teaching philosophy that encourages outdoor exploration, live animals, hands on learning, and an appreciation of the natural world.
Qualifications:
Requires a minimum of two years' experience supervising children. Must be creative, enjoy nature, and demonstrated ability to work with people of all ages and to deal with stressful situations calmly. An intermediate level of written and verbal communication in the English language is required and CPR/AED certified or have the ability to become certified (through our district). Preference will be given to individuals with Early Childhood and Nature related experience.
Availability:
Hours vary from week to week and include week day daytime, evening and/or weekend hours (both Saturdays and Sundays); will average approximately 5-20 hours per week.
