Youth Shotokan Karate Instructor LSU New Orleans - Recreation and Fitness Center New Orleans, LA Job Details Contract $25 - $30 an hour 18 hours ago Qualifications Youth fitness CPR Certification Working with students Gymnastics Teaching Full Job Description Job Overview We are seeking an energetic and dedicated Youth Shotokan Karate Instructor to inspire and develop young martial artists through engaging and structured karate training sessions. In this role, you will lead children and adolescents in learning fundamental Shotokan Karate techniques, discipline, and sportsmanship while fostering a safe, inclusive, and motivating environment. The ideal candidate will possess a passion for teaching martial arts, experience working with children, and strong communication skills to connect with students of all ages. This paid position offers an exciting opportunity to promote physical activity, character development, and confidence among youth through the art of karate. Duties Lead engaging karate classes for youth participants, focusing on Shotokan Karate fundamentals, kata (forms), kihon (basics), and kumite (sparring) techniques Develop age-appropriate lesson plans that promote skill progression, discipline, and sportsmanship Monitor student behavior to ensure a safe and respectful environment, employing effective behavior management strategies Demonstrate proper techniques and provide constructive feedback to help students improve their skills Foster teamwork, confidence, and motivation among students by encouraging participation and celebrating achievements Maintain safety protocols including first aid procedures, AED operation, and emergency response readiness during classes Communicate regularly with parents or guardians regarding student progress and class updates Qualifications Prior experience in martial arts instruction, particularly Shotokan Karate or similar disciplines such as Judo or Taekwondo Experience working with children in educational or sports settings Strong communication skills to effectively teach and motivate youth learners Knowledge of child behavior management techniques to maintain a positive class environment Certification in first aid and CPR; AED operation certification preferred but not required (training provided if necessary) Background in sports coaching or physical education is highly desirable Additional experience with swimming, gymnastics, cheerleading, climbing, basketball or soccer coaching is a plus Ability to demonstrate leadership in team settings and foster a fun yet disciplined atmosphere Join us in shaping the next generation of confident martial artists!
