DESCRIPTION
Shoreview's skating program consists of two different areas. Preschool children who are at least 4 years old can enroll in "pre-skills" classes. This course introduces preliminary moves in a 30-minute class. The purpose of the class is to develop familiarity, coordination and strength. Basic skills classes are offered for youth. This part of the program includes Readiness Levels 1 & 2. Classes are held at the Ramsey County Shoreview Arena located across the street from the City Hall/Community Center Complex.
DUTIES INCLUDE
Give work direction to associate skating instructors. Supervise ice skating lessons; assure safety of students. Teach basic and intermediate skills to children and adults at all levels when needed. Plan and organize classes. Assess skills for readiness to move to next level. Adjust teaching techniques based on strengths & weaknesses of students. Make decisions and respond to inquiries and concerns relating to the program, participants, and staff.
QUALIFICATIONS
Skating knowledge and experience is required Must be at least 18 years old Ability to lift and move 30 pounds Previous teaching experience is desired USFSA instructor registration desired. (Basic Skills, Preliminary Moves, etc.) CPR/First-Aid certification is desired. Training will be provided.
OTHER Hours :
Saturday mornings October through February. 2-4 hours each Saturday. •Free Community Center Membership •
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
: The position requires standing and skating for extended periods while instructing and supervising participants on the ice. Duties involve demonstrating skating techniques, providing hands-on assistance to skaters of all ages and abilities, evaluating participant progress, and ensuring a safe learning environment. Employees may be required to lift, carry, or move instructional equipment and materials weighing up to 30 pounds. The ability to respond quickly to emergencies, maintain awareness of participant safety, and work in cold temperatures for extended periods is essential.
