Our mission is to help young athletes build confidence, stay active, and develop a lifelong love of sports in a fun, positive environment. As we continue to grow, we're looking for enthusiastic Chess Instructors who are passionate about working with children and helping young players develop critical thinking, problem-solving, and sportsmanship through chess. About the Role As a Chess Instructor, you'll lead engaging chess classes for participants in a structured, supportive environment. You'll teach chess fundamentals, strategy, tactics, and gameplay while helping students strengthen critical thinking, problem-solving, focus, and sportsmanship. Instructors should expect to travel to different program locations throughout New Jersey and New York based on their assignments. You'll work with different ages and skill levels, creating a fun, safe, and encouraging environment where they can learn new skills, build confidence, and enjoy being active.

Responsibilities include:

Lead chess classes in a fun, organized, and engaging environment. Teach chess fundamentals, opening principles, tactics, strategy, and endgame concepts. Guide participants through puzzles, drills, and structured gameplay. Encourage critical thinking, patience, and good sportsmanship. Set up and organize materials before each class. Create a positive and inclusive learning environment. Communicate professionally with participants, parents, and program staff when needed. Represent TJD Sports Academy with professionalism at every program.

What we look for:

Strong Communication Skills - You can explain chess concepts clearly and create an engaging learning environment for participants of different experience levels. Teaching & Instructional Ability -You're comfortable leading groups and adapting your instruction to meet the needs of beginners and more experienced players. Passion for Chess -You have a strong understanding of chess fundamentals and enjoy helping others improve their skills and confidence. We're also looking for instructors who are: Reliable and dependable. Patient and encouraging. Organized and professional. Comfortable leading classes independently. Great at creating a positive learning environment. Have reliable transportation. Willing to travel to different program locations.

Schedule:

Most programs take place on weekday afternoons, evenings, and weekends. Instructors choose assignments that fit their availability. Additional opportunities become available throughout the year for Instructors who consistently demonstrate reliability and strong performance.
