Job Description

Job Overview Make Your Move Chess Academy is seeking enthusiastic and responsible instructors to teach afterschool chess programs at local partner schools. If you enjoy chess and working with children, this is a rewarding opportunity to inspire young minds and share the life skills chess develops—focus, logic, and creativity. Must-Have Requirements (Non-Negotiable) Strong chess background (USCF-rated players or equivalent experience preferred) Experience teaching, tutoring, or working with children (K-8) Reliable transportation (must be able to drive to local schools) Consistent weekday afternoon availability Must arrive at least 10 minutes before class and stay until all students are dismissed If you do not meet these requirements, please do not apply. Responsibilities Lead engaging 1-hour chess classes using provided lesson plans and puzzles Adapt teaching to different skill levels and maintain a positive learning environment Record attendance and submit a short summary of what was taught on our attendance app after each class Communicate clearly with program coordinators and follow class procedures Arrive at least 10 minutes before each class for setup and preparation Ensure student safety and supervision at all times Preferred Qualifications Tournament chess background (USCF 1200+ or higher) Strong classroom management skills Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities Ability to motivate and connect with students

$50.00 - $85.00 per hour Application Question(s): Reliable transportation is required as this position involves traveling to various school locations throughout Queens and Nassau County that may not be easily accessible by public transit.
