Job Description

FIRST Tech Challenge & FIRST LEGO League Coaches We're looking for energetic, technically capable, and reliable Robotics Coaches to lead FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) and
FIRST LEGO
League (FLL) teams through a full competition season. This is a contractor role perfect for anyone who enjoys mentoring young engineers, loves building and programming robots, and wants meaningful part-time work with a clear season arc. Season Structure FIRST seasons run on a fixed calendar. Coaches commit to a full season, including tournament days, which usually fall on Sundays. FTC teams meet across the full school year. Competition runs November through February, and teams continue into the spring with off-season events, skill-building, and outreach. FLL teams wrap their competitive season in the winter, and we also run FLL off-season classes for students who want to keep building between seasons. Summer robotics camps, private lessons, and birthday parties are available year-round. FTC meets on Wednesdays and Fridays, while FLL meets on Mondays, typically from 4:30 to 6:00 pm, but may shift or have additional meet days as we approach competition dates. Who We Are MakeInspires is a leading STEAM education provider based in the New York Metro Area, serving schools, libraries, community centers, nonprofits, recreation departments, and private organizations across the NY Metro area. We deliver engaging programs in Robotics, Coding, 3D Printing, Engineering, Digital Media, and more, all supported by creative and passionate instructors and makers. We currently partner with 100+ schools and operate our own makerspaces in Mamaroneck, Chappaqua, Darien, Brooklyn, and the Upper East Side. Coaching opportunities are available in all locations and surrounding schools. What We're Looking For People who genuinely enjoy working with children and can guide a team without taking over the build Comfort with programming. For
FLL, LEGO SPIKE
Prime block coding or Python. For FTC, Java and Android Studio or OnBot Java Mechanical aptitude for FTC coaches, including experience with metal structural systems (REV, goBILDA, or similar), gearing, and basic wiring Familiarity with the FIRST Core Values, Gracious Professionalism, and the judged components of each program (Innovation Project, Robot Design, Engineering Portfolio) Willingness to run a season-long process rather than a single class: design iteration, engineering notebook or portfolio documentation, and competition prep Professional, dependable, and punctual Able to commit to a full season once assigned to a team, including tournament dates Willing to commute to different schools Prior FIRST experience as a coach, mentor, volunteer, judge, or alumnus is preferred. Training and season-prep support are provided for candidates with a solid technical foundation who are new to the FIRST ecosystem. Perks & Extras Flexible scheduling.
