What they do
A Special Education Teacher teaches students who have disabilities, and adapts teaching methods to meet the needs of students. Assesses students and helps to develop individualized education plans that specify the services and accommodations needed for each student. Works in a classroom that includes only students with IEPs, or works with students and teachers in regular classes. For students with severe disabilities, may focus on developing skills for independent living. Works as part of a team that includes therapists, school counselors or social workers.

Valid California Education Specialist Instruction Credential (Mild/Moderate or Mod/Sev Support Needs) Duties Develop and implement engaging lesson plans tailored to meet the unique needs of students with disabilities, including those on the autism spectrum and with developmental delays. Adapt instructional materials and activities using curriculum development strategies and educational technology integration to enhance learning outcomes. Collaborate closely with speech therapists, behavioral health specialists, parents, and other professionals to support student progress through team-based planning and intervention. Manage classroom behavior effectively through positive behavior management techniques and behavioral therapy strategies, creating a safe and supportive environment.Qualifications:
Valid California Education Specialist Instruction Credential (Mild/Moderate) Proven classroom experience working with students with disabilities in elementary school settings; experience with autism spectrum disorders support is highly desirable. Strong knowledge of childhood development principles, early intervention strategies, and classroom management techniques tailored for special education environments.Pay:
