Redwood City, CA Schedule:
Monday-Friday, 9:00 AM-1:00 PM Job Summary We are seeking an outgoing Special Education Teacher to join a small community-based morning program serving five young adults with complex developmental, physical, communication and sensory needs. Each young adult will be accompanied by a 1:1 aide. This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys creative teaching, collaboration and being actively involved in all aspects of the students' day. Responsibilities Co-plan and facilitate engaging, age-appropriate learning experiences using a multi-sensory approach, including visual, auditory, tactile, movement and experiential activities. Adapt activities for students with varying cognitive, physical, sensory and communication needs. Support students who communicate in different ways, including AAC, pictures, gestures, switches and other communication systems. Lead community outings and experiential learning. Work alongside another Special Education Teacher Wednesday through Friday to coordinate programming and student support. Collaborate with therapists, service providers, vendors and students' 1:1 aides. Provide guidance to 1:1 aides so students can participate successfully in activities. Provide direct 1:1 support to students as needed. We are looking for someone who is comfortable being both a teacher and a hands-on member of the support team. Safely assist with transfers, mobility and adaptive equipment, including walkers, exercise bikes and similar equipment. Help open and prepare the program space each morning so it is ready for students and activities. Coordinate weekly communications regarding the upcoming schedule, activities, outings, supplies and other program needs. Maintain a positive, engaging environment while adjusting energy, pacing and stimulation based on each student's individual needs. Qualifications Experience in special education, adult transition programs, developmental disabilities or a related setting strongly preferred. Experience working with individuals with complex support needs preferred. Experience with AAC and alternative communication methods preferred. Comfortable working collaboratively with teachers, therapists, service providers and 1:1 aides. Willing to jump in wherever needed, including providing direct student support. Physically able to safely assist with transfers and mobility-related activities. Flexible, dependable, organized and comfortable adapting plans as student needs change. Warm and energetic, with the ability to dial energy and stimulation up or down depending on the student. Valid driver's license, reliable transportation and ability to drive yourself to community outings required.
Pay:
$30.00 - $40.00 per hour Expected hours: 20.0 per week
