A Special Education Teacher teaches students who have disabilities, and adapts teaching methods to meet the needs of students. Assesses students and helps to develop individualized education plans that specify the services and accommodations needed for each student. Works in a classroom that includes only students with IEPs, or works with students and teachers in regular classes. For students with severe disabilities, may focus on developing skills for independent living. Works as part of a team that includes therapists, school counselors or social workers.

Responsibilities include:
Providing high-quality instruction to students with mild to severe disabilities (cognitive, behavioral, or emotional) Leading and mentoring small teams of paraprofessionals in select positions Collaborating closely with cross-disciplinary providers (speech, occupational therapy, psychology) Utilizing behavioral strategies, CPI, ABA, de-escalation techniques, and/or Denver model approaches as relevant Developing individualized education plans and implementing station-based or push-in/push-out service models Fostering a safe, inclusive learning environment and advocating for student needs Ideal candidates bring: Current CO Department of Education Teacher license with Special Education Generalist (ages 5-21) endorsement Experience supporting elementary-aged students requiring structured, affective, or mild/moderate educational interventions Familiarity with autism support, severe behavioral interventions, de-escalation, and classroom schedule management Strong collaboration, interpersonal, and leadership skills, with a commitment to fitting well with multidisciplinary school teams Timely responsiveness for credentialing; flexibility to complete necessary district documentation prior to assignment start This assignment runs from July 27, 2026, through May 21, 2027, with a 37.5-hour work week.
